Better trying to defend with a full squad I thought, so I chose to kick rather than receive. Although the match started well with a dp being sent of trying to kick my tree in turn one, I couldn't stop the chaos machine from grinding over the field and scoring in turn 8. Even though my initial plan was to hunt the tacklers with my 2 mighty blow wardancers, I always thought it better to get a try at the ball. I kicked it loose once, but it fell in the hands of a chaos warrior... 1-0 and one turn to go.
Luckily the fans gave me a hand starting a riot, giving me 2 turns to score the equalizer. Exactly the kind of thing a wood elf coach needs! 1-1 at halftime was inevitable.
In the second half I managed to squeeze my team through and stalled until turn 5 to score 2-1 but at a great sacrifice. Both wardancers were out by then and only 5 elves remained (meanwhile the tree had badly hurt himself on a claw). I got a blitz at the kick-off but couldn't capitalize on it since my remaining 2 non-line of scrimmage elves were positioned deep on my own half of the field. The massacre continued the remaining three turns and with only 3 elves left I had to start overtime.
The coin toss favored me and thanks to the quick snap result at kick-off there was still a flare of hope. Three elves can do miracles at times. Alas, today was not to be such a day... my cunning plan to lob the ball towards the end zone and sprint for it was unfortunately thwarted by the blizzard limiting the throwing range. With two remaining elves and no rerolls very few options remained open indeed, resulting in the logical 3-2 end score.
And of course the dead guy got the mvp...
Entertaining game versus a friendly coach.”
