“*** GLT VII High TV Qualifier 2 Round 1 ***
The Bears caught the first of several breaks before the game even started as the star-mino the beard haters induced before the game did not show up and left them hanging at a TV disadvantage of 310.
So despite the good premise and a won coin-toss the Bears started nervously with lukewarm blocks during the first few turns finding themselves undermanned quick as Zlatan was knocked out in turn 1. The chaos dorfs were able to get and stay right in the face of the Bears during the first drive and star-runner Aran had to pull out one hell of a run in order to score the first touchdowns, leaving the slow CD blockers on his heels. Still the bears were forced in a score way too early in round 5.
With 4 turns on the clock the Beard haters spread the field with their bulls and were able to power down their left flank , forcing a poorly positioned Bears team to try a high risk maneuver in order to get a 1d-blitz, which failed and let the Chaos Dorfs run it in uncontested.
With their best Longbeard Bazthen staying on the sideline with an injury, the Bears finally regained their passion during half-time and played a dedicated defensive half, now winning the block-war most of the time. Against a motivated Bears-team that now also now packed more of a punch with several timely stuns against the opposition the Beard Haters quickly found themselves in trouble and had to spurt down the left flank with a lot less ball protection than desired. After the first 2d-blitz on the ball had failed the Bears were able to get possession deep in their own half on turn5. With almost every player tied up in the middle it was again Aran’s turn to make a big play. As he was about to leave the defense behind the Beards were able to stop and even injure him for a short period (as the apo was able to patch him up again. A last long-odds try by the chaos dorfs failed and the game was sent into OT with the beard haters receiving.
Fatigue seemed to play a role now as the less experienced Beard Haters seemed to tire on their blocks as a pitch invasion had created a decent situation for them. The most telling moment was, when a CD blocker tried to dodge from one TZ into another one (aka missclick), giving Aran the deciding opportunity to blitz and conquer the ball. More bad blocking on side of the CD opened the door and Aran was not to be stopped from there. Yalosch delivered the killing blow when he sent the ST4- star hobo of the Beard Haters to his maker.
In the end the Bears can call themselves really lucky as some more good/bad rolls on either side could have made all the difference the CDS needed.
MonkyTonky txs for the fun game! You gave my guys all that they could handle. Who knows what would have happened with that star… ”
