“The Breakfast of Champions Halfling team opened their account with an emphatic (some would say fortuitous, others, suspicious) win over the Skaven of Talabheim. Undoubtedly, the star of the Halflings was the Masterchef, serving up no less than 5 rerolls in the game (2 in the 1st, and all 3 in the second!).

The Skaven received first, and a solid drive down the field, despite 2 1db blitzes on the Gutter Runners, yielded the first TD. Score 0-1

The Halflings responded with a steady press up the field, and equalised near the end of the first half. Score 1-1

Half-Time score: 1-1, and it was even-stevens at that point

The second half opened with the Halflings receiving again - after several turns of running play, the Halflings beginning to take a toll on the lightly armoured ratmen, and a man free to receive a hand-off to score, a dodge was failed and the ball went loose. Another halfling was pushed back onto the ball, and a team-mate caught it. He survived several blocks, including a double skull. Attempting to switch the play, however, he too blew his dodge and the ball was loose, albeit at the roots of an immobile Treeman. A Skaven attempt to retrieve it was also unsuccessful. With the man still free, the halflings succeed on the 3rd attempt to run the ball to him, and he scored. Score 2-1.

The Skaven had only 3 turns left to salvage a draw, but the crowd was having none of it - the game had been taking a while due to the Halfling coach's deliberate play, and enraged that they were missing their tea, the Halfling supporters Invaded the Pitch and stunned all but 2 of the remaining Skaven (meanwhile, a solitary halfling was knocked to the ground by the rush, but as he'd secreted some beef jerky in his uniform, he was happy enough).

Rushing both players, Gutter Runners, far into the halfling team half, cthol was banking on his stunned Thrower performing some magic - the Halflings had setup too deep to take advantage with a Throw Team Mate manoeuvre. Two Halflings nevertheless surged forward in an attempt to pressurise, but one fell to the ground with gastric pain from eating too much at half-time. The Skaven thrower, maliciously amused by the unfortunately Halfling rolling on the floor, took his eyes off the ball and fluffed the pickup, but the Halflings, also now out of rerolls, blew a block on one of the Gutter Runners before they could try for their 3rd TD.

With the last seconds left on the clock, the Skaven attempted an audacious endzone-to-endzone manoeuvre, but the delicious smells emanating from the dugout were too much for the throwing Gutter Runner to whom the Thrower had handed off, and he fumbled the pass. Final Score: 2-1 to Breakfast of Champions.
