“Coming off an opening week win, the Oblivion Knights faced the Baku Burners in a cardiac game for the ages. Coach Ruzgar's Wood Elves played elf ball at its finest – effortlessly dodging, leaping and blocking their way to a quick 2-turn score and playing staunch zone defense throughout the first half. It was all the Chaos squad could do prevent a second Burners score mid-half and a late turn 8 tie was thwarted by a clumsy trip in the end zone by an exhausted Beastman.
The second half was no less intense as, even undermanned, Baku's Wardancers were on fire. Screens, cages, tags – none of it mattered as the ball was routinely batted away from Oblivion Knights' ball carriers by those leaping she-devils.
However, some of the elf magic began to wear off late in the half after the Burners' catcher pulled up on his charge to the end zone, leaving himself open to a brutal blitz that jarred the ball loose (ultimately recovered by the Knights). In addition, the brutal hits and team blocking of the Chaos squad wore the elven defenders down. Dodges were finally missed and the injuries began to pile up. It still took a skilled turn 16 blitz to free up Bloodmane (Beatman) for the score and a HARD earned 1-1 draw.
Of note: Mulcana, MVP of week 1, spent much of this game either on his back getting curb-stomped or insolently ignoring orders (Wild Animal) as he yelled at the refs. Not his best game.
Chaos Warrior, Ghol, was named MVP for his 5 block, 1 CAS performance. Coaches marveled at how well he seemed to improve in his blocking technique.”
