“NWFL Preseason, Final Game

Considerably outclassed for the final preseason match, the Batrachians were given a substantial chest of gold to play the heavily favored 3-0 Korsairs. With an evil glint in his eye, Coach Harbog hired the services of Helmut Wulf, and slipped the ref a bribe to boot. Would the risky strategy pay off?

The Slann won the toss and chose to receive. Immediately the Korsair faithful made their presence known, flooding the pitch with bloodthirsty fans and stunning almost half of the Slann team. But none were stupid enough to confront Helmut, and he quickly impacted the game, KO'ing one of the Korsair's blodge blitzers.

That 'hit' set the tone for the first half. The Batrachians managed a slow drive upfield, protecting Helmut and KO'ing numerous elves. Team brute Gory Redding even nabbed his 3rd cas in two games, taking out the Korsairs rookie Runner. By T8 the Har Ganeth team was down to four players and Anquan was able to hand off to Trell 'Get Some' Suggs for the easy score.

The Delfs weren't about to roll over though, and had most of their team back to start the 2nd half. In typical delf fashion they calmly moved the ball forward in a well protected cage. But the Batrachians saw an opening and pounced! A leaping Oneel laid out the ball a grabbed up the bounce in traffic! The Korsairs were unfazed though and quickly took it back, advancing the ball in the process. They were hard pressed though and had to score on T13.

With just a couple turns left the Batrachians moved multiple scorers up the right hash. The Korsair Witch Nilaihah wasn't going to allow that though, and sprinted across the field in a surf attempt on the vulnerable Slann catcher. In her frenzied state however she failed to notice the torn up turf and took a hard header into the pitch. The apo was rushed out and managed to revive the seemingly dead witch. She'll miss a match nursing her broken leg though.

With the way clear, the Slann catchers had no problem playing a little catch and moving up for the winning score.

"Helmut was a real beast out there today. It's easy to see why he's a highly sought after star. And playin' deep into the second half was an unexpected bonus. The whole team fed off his bloodthirsty play, and really dropped the hammer on those Korsairs. But given what we payed him to play, we really didn't expect him to run off with games mvp trophy..."”
