We struck first early, as Monkey Gone to Heaven ran the ball in for a turn 2 touchdown. Shortly thereafter, the wizard came into play, exposing the lizard ball-carrier to a blitz. Freshbreeze proved his worth by leaping into a trio of tackle zones, extending to 10 squares, picking the ball up, and chucking a pass to Monkey for his second TD. Sadly, the lizards managed to equalize as the first half ran out, and picked up the ball for the second half.
What followed was easily the longest drive of the game, and one in which the lizards invariably controlled the ball. Twice, we managed to get the assists in play for an advantageous leap-block on the carrier... twice, our wardancers failed to leap in. Eventually, the lizards established firm control of the ball, dealt a few costly injuries, and ran it in with only half a turn remaining.
We were elves, though, and we had one remaining weapon: Jordell Freshbreeze. A deft series of chain-blocks put the star wardancer in range of the goal, and I've Been Tired passed him the ball. Freshbreeze took off down the field, hurdled a skink... and totally botched the landing, falling flat on his face and knocking himself out of the game.
With the lizards winning the coin toss in overtime, and possessed of a 10-7 man advantage, it was going to take a miracle for the elves to pull this one out. A miracle did not happen -- though the death of wardancer Black Francis did. He was posthumously awarded the MVP.
While we didn't win the game, we did manage to make it much closer than it probably should have been, and we're... happy is the wrong word. We accept the way that it turned out. We wish littlestone and his lizards luck in the remainder of the cup!”
