I felt this was always going to be a tough game against a good lizardman team and I wasn't mistaken. The lizzies got 540k in inducements and took Slibli, a wizard, and two babes. The inducements played a big role in the game, but none so big as the wizard who took down Anna my would-be ball carrier already on the first turn after Anna failed the pickup in rain. The wizard badly hurt Anna (apo used) and allowed the lizzies to run in a quick defensive TD after 2 turns. Moreover, the apothecary was not there to save Jill, who got hit for a -MA by a saurus.
Not disheartened by this early poor showing, the chaos started the second drive in full force. 2 KOs on the first turn and a foul causing a BH on a saurus on the second turn (apothed, DP sent off) gave Chuck Versus Blood Bowl a significant advantage. Clawbomb worked its magic the rest of the half and with the lizzies foul on Stephen causing only a stun and a send-off, Anna was able to walk in the equalizing TD with only 3 lizzies laying on the pitch at T8. Incidentally, this drive also saw the first ever use of tentacles on the chaos team, with Sarah holding the lizzies' kroxigor when it tried a desperate blitz.
After this drive it was time for another inducement to shine, namely the babes which brought back all 6 KOs for the lizzies. With 10 players, the lizzies attempted a one-turn touchdown, but despite the pushes working well, picking up the ball turned out to be too much.
The second half started with a blitz! for chaos, who didn't do much with it, except get themselves out of position. The lizardmen started off one flank, and managed a solid side-line cage. With chaos not able to apply enough pressure, the lizzies were able to stall until turn 5, leaving 4 turns to equalize.
4 turns to go, 11 players against 9 (8 after the opening turn of the drive), 4 RRs on hand, and nice weather for the first time in the game after the kick off. Things didn't sound too bad for Chuck Versus Blood Bowl, but they made a mistake in not advancing quickly enough, leaving them a tricky turn 7 in which they had to advance into scoring position. They did manage to construct a decent cage with Anna one gfi away from scoring position, but the clincher came when the lizzies blitzed Ellie, with a RR turning pushes into double skulls and allowing an easy run for the equalizing TD at the end of regulation.
As if that wasn't enough luck for the chaos, they also won the coin toss to receive in OT and had 10 players against the lizardmen's 7 to start with. The first turn saw the 126 SPP Terrible "Two Timing" Tom dead, and only 5 lizzies facing the 10 chaos players. With this big an advantage the chaos couldn't really lose anymore and they didn't. The most exciting thing during the rest of the drive involved skilling up chaos players - Morgan got a pass and a TD for guard, but Devon couldn't catch the ball so he didn't get to skill up.
On the whole, I have to say I was lucky in this game. I won the coin toss twice, got a blitz!, a changed weather when I needed it the most and most importantly, a ton of casualties and KOs. Nevertheless, I almost managed to throw away the game with poor play on my offensive drives, but Nuffle and clawbomb bailed me out in the end despite The_Provocateur outcoaching me. If I want to go far in this tournament, I really need to do better!
Speaking of doing better, Jill is looking healthier than ever now she was handed a mysterious potion that the coach has been hoarding for ages. In fact, she looks ready and eager to take on the Khemri that Chuck Versus Blood Bowl is facing next!
