This report is being written by a shaky hand after witnessing the absolute carnage that took place on the pitch. Unfortunately the Mini League debut of Dirty Deeds Done Cheap was not destined to be a happy one. A crippling raft of casualties ripped the spine out of the team (literally!) and made the second half an exercise in survival for the Dark Elves.
The first half started brightly for DDDC, receiving the kick off and driving downfield. Claws of the Night’s star player HacknSlash caused some mayhem early on with several KO attacks, but real trouble was soon to follow as DDDC’s Witch Elf shattered her ankle while trying to ‘Go for It’ with the ball. The Dark Elf apothecary worked his magic, and the improved result was Killed! This set the tone for the Dark Elves for the rest of the game. Soon the casualties and KO’s were piling up.
The ball bounced loose near the Claws’ end zone and a scramble ensured. Somehow Mr. Quiet managed to gather the ball then survived not one, not two, not three, but FOUR 2-dice blocks (from Frenzied Werewolves!) in a single turn through a combination of dodge & block, and actually wound up closer to the end zone than when the series of blocks started! He ran in for a last turn touchdown.
At 1 – 1 of turn 5 of the second half and with just 6 players on the pitch, DDDC tried to survive long enough to pick up a draw. But Claws of the Night were in no mood to allow the bloodied Dark Elves to rest, and with two MA 8 werewolves, there was nowhere to hide! The ball carrier and his tiny defensive pocket were hunted down and further blood was spilt. A desperate turn 6 play – with DDDC down to 5 players standing – saw the Runner, Shoot to Thrill, make a breakaway down the wide zone and throw a hopeful pass downfield. The pass missed its intended target. One of the Claw werewolves promptly killed Shoot to Thrill for his insolence, and the ball was collected for what looked like a walk in TD. However, the simple hand off to ensure victory was fumbled – possibly by blood stained fingers! – and the game ended with the score at 1 – 1.
Truly a crazy game of Blood Bowl. Thanks to Toombs for being a good sport – his dice were red hot for armour and injury rolls but deserted him when it came to ball handling!
How will Dirty Deeds Done Cheap recover from this eye watering beating? Stay tuned....”
