Brutal Crimson took on another Dark Elf team in form of Dirty Deeds Done Cheap. Dirty Deeds had acquired a reputation as a rather squishy opponent – they have the worst difference in casualties caused / received in the entire league (even worse than the Halflings!) – and Coach Katana was hoping to put his powerful Chaos Dwarf blockers to good use.

The game didn’t pan out according to plan. Dirty Deeds received the kick and went on the attack. A mass brawl over the line of scrimmage and on the right hand side of the pitch distracted Crimson from a Witch Elf runner sneaking down the left. A grotty Hobgoblin tried to track the Witch but only succeded in getting punched in the head and ending up face down in the dirt. By the time Crimson realised the danger on the flank it was too late! In a very slick move Dirty Deeds cleared a space, threw an inch perfect quick pass and then ran in a beautiful TD! Coach Katana kicked his hobgoblins in frustration at such poor defending!

Crimson received the kick and started a methodical grind downfield. Speedy Dark Elf blitzers harassed the ball carrier from the first moment. Fortunately for Crimson, the Bulls excelled themselves with powerful blocks and blitzes, allowing the snivelling Hobgoblin ball carrier to scurry downfield and run in a late first half TD!

Second half dawned with everything to play for. A touchback from the kick gave Crimson an opportunity for a Bull to carry the ball – much safer than a puny hobgoblin! A charge deep into the Dirty Deeds half from Bragus followed, but Crimson were too reckless. Dirty Deeds reacted quickly and piled tackle zones onto the Bull, and then – to the horror of the Crimson fans – blitzed him into the dirt and retrieved the ball! A wild spell of blitz and block followed – Dirty Deed nearly broke away for a sensational touch down, but excellent work by Chaos Dwarf blockers brought down the ball carrier before the killer pass could be thrown. A hobgoblin rushed in and scooped in the ball, somehow survived a re-rolled two dice block from Dirty Deeds (double push back both times!) and was able to run in a late TD to make it 2 – 1.

Crimson fans breathed a huge sigh of relief and thought the game was won. Not quite! With just two turns left, Dirty Deeds received a high kick and broke extremely fast down a poorly organised wide zone (Coach Katana claims to have been distracted by a Bloodwiser Babe....). The Witch Elf carried the ball, survived a Bull blitz and, despite a mass of Crimson tackle zones, was left with two dodges and then a clear run to the end zone for an incredible last turn TD! The crowd held its breath as she went for the dodge – got the first....... but failed the second and was tackled to the ground by a Chaos Dwarf! Heartbreak for Dirty Deeds, a huge sigh of relief for Brutal Crimson!

An exciting 2 – 1 game ended in favour of the Chaos Dwarfs – but could have gone either way!

[Thanks to Saikyo for a fun match up and some good jokes at the end - hopefully this game restored some faith in your ability to play Dark Elves :) ]
