“Taking on a team with a much higher TR was always going to be risk for the Gallowglass Warlords. However, like true Highlanders they entered the game without fear! Backed up by Max Spleenripper’s chainsaw, the Warlords received the kick and drove into the Jury’s half. It was like a deranged game of punch out as the half progressed; Spleenripper was able to KO Jury’s minotaur with the first block of the game, but after that it the Warlords who were repeatedly put down and out. Coach Katana was heard to mutter something about the glassjaws of his team's beastmen on more than one occasion!
A fast paced drive down the wide zone somehow managed to carry the Warlords in for a touchdown, despite the ball carrier being sacked at one point. There was nearly a shock 2-turn equaliser from the Jury, when a fast break, a double skull block, and a long bomb pass set up a Jury beastman for an 8 square run in – but he fell on the last go for it!
Second half dawned with the situation looking grim for the Warlords. With eight players fit to start they lined up against a full strength Jury attack. Warlords were forced to meet the drive without the aid of Maxspleenripper, sent off by the referee despite the use of a bribe. Further casualties and KOs as the half wore on reduced the Warlords to a heroic band of just five players on the pitch! Yet despite the numbers their Highland spirit shone through and they refused to quit – even managing to sack the Jury ball carrier at one point! The resistance of the surviving Warlords was enough to slow the Jury drive to the point that they could only score on the very last turn of the game.
Coach Katana was proud of the efforts of his players and happy with a draw. However, no-one managed to skill up and the absence of anyone with block remains a concern!
