“Kondor watched his dark elves take the pitch against the band of over-sized toads. He tried to portrait a sense of calmness, but he had only once coached against slaan, and that had been a humiliating defeat.
Still, the only way to learn is by playing. It started with coach Nuwanda calling a perfect defense. Knowing how the frogs could trip up even the most agile elf, the elves had been ordered only to dodge if it was absolutely necessary. So they began a series of blocks, most of them one on one.
Surprisingly, there were no slippery skulls about so the frogs ended up with several of their number on their backs. The first block of the slann turn saw both players knocked down despite the redoubled efforts of the player and coach.
After a quick score, the elves started playing some defense. Kondor thought coach Nuwanda was going to blow a blood vessel when the elf blitzer put all of his effort to go for it (twice) and knocked down the ball carrier with a one on one block. (one die POW no reroll) Moments later, the elves had the ball and rushed down field for a second score to end the half.
At one point in the match, Osprey thought he had killed Rippit-Hop but the apothecary managed to save him.
The final straw the caused the concession was when Kondor dialed up a blitz for the opening of the second half. In frustration Nuwanda signaled to the ref that he was throwing in the towel. No Mas he was reported to say.
When the cheers subsided, the team was shocked to learn the the journeyman had been named MVP for both clubs despite what they would have considered an honest days work. Still, he had impressed the fan and promised the Kondor that if given the chance he could even fill in as the team kicker. What could Kondor do but give the fans what they wanted.
As he left the stadium with his new contract in hand the fans already had hung posters blaring his new name to the world. From this day forward he would be known as Cardinal.

Thanks for the game Nuwanda. Sorry that you took such a Nuffling. I offer a rematch anytime you want it. Perhaps things will even out a bit.”
