We had lost our MBPO tackler last game in addition to our wrestle/stripball tackler. So left with only 1 tackler against amazons - it meant that Jesse had to have a huge game...and indeed he did with 15 blocks for 3 CAS...and Sam added 2 CAS with his 3d blitzs and frenzy. However, it did not start out well, with the amazons inflicting the pain early and often. However, Jesse picked away and after losing the first 3 players, we took out 3 girls to even up the odds...the amazons though made a good play - handing off in the rain to bypass our defense and take the 1-0 lead. We had plenty of time and the weather cleared...however, as we tried to stall, Fiona snaked a gfi and stunned herself. It looked bleak, but then our new blitzer made a great individual play to salvage the drive and tie it up 1-1.
Second half, we had the numbers and tried to exploit it...but 1 bad round including a failed pickup by our thrower, and the amazons suddenly were untouchable - we could not take down the last few and they stole the ball and scored a defensive TD...making it 1-2. At this point we decided to play like crap :/ We made way too mistakes, and just failed to take advantage of a good position and allowed the amazons to blitz the ball again and again - they had a chance to ice the game on T16, but failed the 2d blitz (a knockdown and pickup by blodger would have likely been game). Instead we escaped our mistake and pushed it into OT.
In OT, we received, but the amazons were in pure elf mode...we just could not protect the ball from them...ball free again, but finally, we picked it up and used the greater speed of the gutter runners to finally put the game away.
It was a very up and down game - could have gone either way. Overall though, just having the 1 tackler, we fared much better than expected.
Thanks for the game!”
