WIBBL Cup Final

This match up was only going to go one of two ways: The Wood Elves would dance around the chaos defence and score freely, making a mockery of them, or die trying. Sadly for Calthor, it was the latter.

The Wood Elves received, and the match started with a WE being knocked out my a rock, and a CW being stunned. The WEs started about the chaos defence with zeal after securing the ball, and there was little the chaos side could do in reply. It wasn't long before catcher, Blade of Grass, received a pass and handed over to the MA9 WD Deep Lake who ran up the line, taunting the chaos crowd, with the intention of stalling.

The chaos side threatened the lone WD, and KO'd a 2nd WE (which were bound to return as the WE team had 2 Babes), whilst, High Priest Klunk II had other thoughts on the matter, seeing the Treeman blitzed and BH'd. Turn 2/2 was a key moment. Deep Lake had no choice but to score.

It was time to take maximum advantage of an early WE score, by hurting the WE's in a strong advance up the field. By turn 6/6, the WE injury box had two further SI'd lineman to join their BH Tree and 2x KOs... to be followed by the booted death of WD Waterfall... and boy was I glad to see the back of that strip ball tackle leaping machine! The half ended 1-1 with Minister Maliciousness strolling in for the equaliser.

A perfect defence for the WE's saw the elves move out of clobbering range of some eager chaos on the los and brought the WE catchers up closer to threaten a steal should the chaos make a wrong move.

The chaos team caged the ball, whilst their team mates set about the remnants of the WE team, sending another BH'd elf back to the box. The WE team, to their credit, fought back, KOing Spawn II - one of the block/tackle/MB beasties... and I decided to throw caution to the wind and apothed him... I needed the tackle, being only 1 of 2 on the team.

The chaos team caged their way upfield in a fit of slaughter with catcher Blade of Grass dieing. Deep Lake tried a leap blitz into the cage, but was left stunned for his troubles. High Priest Klunk II stood about for a number of turns just raging. Then bloging lino, Autumn Win tried blitzing the cage hoping to use his wrestle, but he too failed. However, chaos overconfidence in turn 7/7 left the ball carrier exposed... and a single dice splat thrown by Grassland on Minister Maliciousness left him prone and the ball spilt.

Before the very last turn, WE lino Morning Dew SI'd through a failed dodge and then the WE thrower got BH'd leaving 4 WE available for IT should the following move fail. There was one chance of recovery for the chaos team to win... and that was to get Minister Maliciousness to pick up the ball on a 2+, hand over to beastie Nightmare III on a 3+ and score... all with a reroll... but to the crowd's amazement, Minister Maliciousness double 1'd the pickup!!! - Autumn Wind picked up the ball, after a dodge or two, and made a completion just to rub salt into the gaping wounds of the chaos supporters - INTO OVERTIME!!

And the WE's win the coin toss!... They have a chance!... despite only having 4 players, 2 of them are catchers, one of whom has sprint! However neither team had any rerolls left at this stage!

The ball was kicked and picked up by the very irritating Grassland who seemingly could do no wrong! The two catchers made their way up field within striking distance of the goal line whilst Grassland secured the ball out of reach of the chaos and awaited a chance to throw.

With the chaos team pressurising the ball carrier and the awaiting catchers, all the chaos team could do was await Nuffle's decision. Grassland went for the throw after Autumn Wind cleared his path... gfi'd and launched a pass to Rising Sun... but it failed to get to him and the ball was loose.

The game had swung back into the favour of the chaos team. A systematic surrounding and surfing (BH) of the catcher Rising Sun, meant the WE's weren't going anywhere now. Catcher Mind of Many tried in vain to recover the ball, but fell over, and fortunately for me not knocking the ball in to the crowd.

After another surfing and a hard boot, Minister Maliciousness successfully scored after his team mates had cleared the pitch for the win in what turned out to be a VERY bloody match.

Thanks for the game Calthor... and good luck on recovering that team :/
