Virus decided pre match during our tactical team meeting to send Mr. Scarlet V on a date with a wannabe wizard that showed up on Atei's door. It seems that said wizard fell in love with Mr. Scarlet V and they eloped. Disgusting!
We told Atei in no uncertain terms that they had to provide us with a new rotter in compensation. In a bold move, Margherita Hack volunteered in turn 1 and Atei's team apothecary respected her decision. Good chap!
After that it was business as usual, Virus' superior tactical prowess eliminated key players first, other players later and then it was just walking the ball home...NOT.
The part about key players is true though, but it had more to do with luck than tactical prowess :). Atei scored early so Virus had plenty of time to walk in for a score.
Things seemed to get more interesting than should be expected in second half. With only 6 elves remaining on defense prospects for them were bleak indeed. To be on the safe side, Mumps decided to hand of to safely caged Herpes B..who failed to hold that ball despite two attempts.
Atei managed to pickup and secure the ball in their back field, so we now had 6 elves on offense - a different situation entirely! So Virus took on a conservative tactic by prioritizing to prevent promising scoring situations and slowly edging towards the ball carrier.
At one point Atei lost their nerve and passed to an empty field. Influenza picked up, decided to forgo the safer handoff and to score himself (there were harsh words for that after the match), Atei did a second amazing dodge into the cage followed by a useless block (they did the same in 1/8) and after some more hurt the match was decided by Influenza walking in for TD.
Thanks to gary_gygax for putting up hell of a fight against early bad odds.”
