“The mechanics had a good feeling before this game. A rookie high elf team should be a worthy opponent, and at the same time possible to overcome. THe fans were all for the mechanics as well (FAME+2), and made a lot of noise as the team entered the pitch. Team Captain Snikulf even won the coin toss for us.
Aggressive elves relied on their agility and danced past blockers who were a tad too aggressive, and suddenly we were in trouble, which compounded as Olja Lyn knocked himself out on a failed dodge. The elves blitzed the thrower and recovered the ball, and bam... 1-0 to the Fumbblers. With one KO on each team, a confident (arrogant?) group of elves were eager to play defense. We played it cool, a bit too cool, actually, and only barely managed to score in the last round of the half as some fancy blocking popped a Lineorc loose, and Sterke Petter had to make a 4+ pass to let him score. During the drive, Team Captain Snikulf had decided to put some more pressure on the elves, and personally made two casualties, one of which meant the end for the unfortunate Thadrin. "After that lousy goal, ah felt ah had to make them damned dancing elves hurt some! This IS Blood Bowl, right?", he commented after the match.
In the second half, the field was white, as a terrible blizzard had started to roam. The elves had nine players vs ten orc players, but started with receiving the ball. They chose a cautious approach, and it was not until the middle of the half that they started to edge towards the endzone. They suddenly changed from left to right flank attack, with a nice pass from Russo to SillySod, but he was brought down by the Black Orc blocker Raymond, who was alert to the tricks of elves :) This gave other orcs time to react, and Snikulf quickly arrived to support Raymond, while the blocker Kåre ended Russo's time of the field for this match with casualty #3 for this match. GRitter, the other catcher came to the rescue, and together the two fumbbler catchers managed to push Raymond away from the bal and recover it, but it was too little too late. Snikulf and Sigmund knocked SillySod silly (b-a-a-a-ad pun)and with added help from two blockers and a third blitzer, the two catchers were outmatched. On the other side of the field, Elizabeth created the fourth fumbbler casualty of the day when she slapped elven blitzer Blocknroll so hard his teeth rattled. Sjefen took over the ball, and the two elven catchers who tried their best to trun interference were just swatted aside by the collected might of four orc blitzers. In the end, Snikulf got the honour of scoring the TD.
So, 2-1 in a somewhat lucky game for the mechanics, and Team Captain Snikulf and the brave lineorc Bruktbilselgeren managed to improve their skills. The fumbblers coach tried, and even had a small advantage at the start of the second half, but lost too many players and was helpless at the end to prevent the second orc TD.
And now awaits another High Elf team :) "Them will know afterwards that them 'ave played Blood Bowl, that's a promise!", was Snikulfs comment when asked about this next match. ”
