“After a messy first game defeat at the hands of Mercutio's undead, the Mt. Olympus All-Stars nervously took to the field painfully reminded of the death of their comrades with each glance at their journeymen replacements.
The first half started aggressively with a drive into the opponents half which was quickly shut down. The elves were surrounded with the Wardancer Artemis out cold. Then Aphrodite, with an impressive display of agility, managed to retrieve the ball and thread her way through the tiniest gap her team-mates had created and pass the ball to Demeter who had managed to slip his maker and move into the opposition endzone... Touchdown.
Maybe the team were busy celebrating because they found themselves out of position and unable to respond when, despite some rotten luck, the blitzer Tom Slick managed to run in the equalizer in the dying seconds of the half.
Tragedy in the second half saw the human lineman Cappy Fenwick killed as a result of a heavy block from Demeter, the first half scorer, before Hades ran in another touchdown for the elves.
Maybe Artemis was still groggy from being knocked out in the first half because she tripped and fell at he feet of Henry "super" chicken, whom she was trying to blitz. This changed the outcome of the match, allowing Henry to nonchalantly walk in the equalizer.
Not meaning to take anything away from Saturday Morn All-Stars, who played superbly despite a string of bad luck. The defending was impressive, it seemed like they had 20 players on the pitch at times and we look forward to a settler match once both teams get some more experience.
An altogether better performance from the elves but it just shows they have a long way to go and despite flashes of brilliance the team needs to settle down and work together, especially on defense.”
