Overall though I found it a quite exciting game from start to finish.
On offence, as usual we didn't have too much trouble, but still failed to get ourselves in position to stall for more than an extra turn. This was where Chavo rolled most of his 1s, though honestly less 1s from him wouldn't have been enough, he really needed more 1s from me.
Unfortunately, offence isn't enough to win games. On defence, we gave ourselves plenty of opportunities, but without much to show for it.
Defensive (partial) successes:
* Simply mobbing the ball carrier with markers (on their T8) and getting a failed dodge. No touchdown for us to follow (see below) but at least stopped them from scoring.
* A late, desperate, gutsy 5+ dodge from The Pleasurebag to strip the ball on T15. Didn't stop them from scoring, but bounced the ball into the end zone forcing them to have to score to pick it up. This then gave us a shot at a one-turner, though unsuccessful (see below).
Defensive failures included:
* -2d on the ball from The Pleasurebag, our wrestle+strip-ball player (a skull in both pairs, anything with no skull was good enough).
* 1d on the ball from Goodsie (skull, needed pow or dodge-pow, though anything but skull would certainly have been an improvement)
* The dropped ball from our one success caught on the bounce by another opposition player, then when freed on our turn bouncing to and caught by a player I'd moved already (T8 so no chance to score then)
* A spectacular effort to surf the ball carrier failing on a leap (or gfi, not sure which roll it was actually).
And the final failure, as mentioned: A great one-turner attempt, needing only two blocks to set up thanks to a quick-snap, leaving me with just the two gfis and a reroll to spare. My heart dropped when I had to reroll the first, rose when I passed at least the reroll, then a grunt of pain (that woke up my wife at the other end of the house) when the second gfi failed in the end-zone, the way they always do.
All in all, a lot of the failures felt a little unlucky, but most took advantage of at least a little luck to set the opportunity up in the first place, so who's to say we deserved any of them. At least we gave ourselves plenty of chances, and with a draw leaving us on top of the table there's not too much to complain about.”
