We lost the coin toss and kicked off to the rats to start the game. However, we had perfect defense and decided to avoid the LOS blocks. We left one side of the pitch open and the rats took that path near the sidelines - we moved to box them in...and then they sent out the ballcarrier solo - perhaps forgetting about fend, because due to fend, they ended up 1 space short of the goal line. They attempted to run out protection, but 1 player was grabbed by tents, the other linerat dodged free. Still, it was a 2 gfi blitz for 2d for the surf - which worked and the ball was loose. The rat ogre was awesome trying to stop our defensive TD, but it was not enough - and we raced down the length of the field for the T8 score. As a whole, we did not do much damage in the first half: 5 KOs --all but 1 woke up. We suffered a BH to a troll slayer - which we decided not to apoth.
Second half, we had the ball and the 1-0 lead, so it was just a waiting game for the wizard. It was a high kick, so I caught the ball with a blitzer - using my runner as a safety to help counter the wizard. The wizard was aces - hitting 4 out of 4 (although no armor breaks). The gutter runners grabbed the ball and headed downfield. Our blitz on the ball would have been 2d without tackle. So instead, we 3d blitzed a different GR (had to use RR) - that freed a path for Jason Killer...who dodged away from 2 rats to mark the ball. The rats blitzed off 1 of our players with a 1d push...however, it was still an escape from tentacles and 5+ dodge...the escape worked, but the DT tripped up the gutter runner for an SI. At this point it was over...the ball bounced to a linerat - but we smashed the linerat (had to RR again) - but it bounced to Jason - and we got some more KOs, then inflicted 2 late RIPs as Jason slowly raced down the field for the 2-0 win.
After a disappointing showing in the UI, the Tiny Steel Hammers return to their championship style with their 2nd major victory...already they turn their eyes towards the next challenge!
Thanks for the game - fun times!”
