The first half reminded us of catastrophic 69ers matches. The elves got the ball and while controlling it they managed to force the human players near to the side line, where the Witch Elves could strike terribly efficient. This resulted in two casualties and several KOs, so that by the end of the half there were not many 69ers left on the pitch. Still, one desperate blitz on the ball carrier worked, but as expected, was in vain. Many spectators asked themselves, why coach Urrghs let it happen that so many players got surfed. But to be honest, he does not know either. There was not much he could do. Either letting the elves run or trying to stand in their way. he decided for the second, which evidently did not pay of.
However, one thing was really annoying and probably also partly decisive for the outcome in the end. The 69ers, while the half time was lost anyway, were not capable of hurting anyone. The blitzers and tacklers tried again and again to sting in order to be in a better position during the second half, but they did not succeed, although some of them are known for their mighty blow capabilities.
Therefore, the half ended with a 0-1 and everything seemed lost. Coach Urrghs must have thought up an
immensly motivating speech during the brerak, since all KO-victims came to their senses and decided that they could play again. So, the humans could position 10 players, and suddenly the world did not look
so bad any more. it was a simple trail by one TD. Anything was possible again. And in fact, the drive started not too badly. Some blocks at the LoS, a pick up in the back field and receivers looking for free paths to get through. However, as expected, the dark elves managed to cover the ball expecting humies and started to push on to the thrower so that he was forced to react. In this situation he decided to pass the ball to the strong lineman Albert Quickspike, who was waiting by the side of the Oger in the middle of the pitch. He successfully catched the ball and then the humans' run began. Keeping the ball carrier in a cage, they proceeded very carefully and slowly towards the Elves' end zone. Coach Urrghs was afraid that his opponent could force a kamikaze blitz onto the ball carrier, but as he was guarded very well, PeteW coould not do much than being patient and waiting for a mistake of the attackers. On the other hand, the side stepping and dodging defense made it really difficult to rush, and the time on the clock slowly, but continously was running down.
But to be honest, this was not that bad as it appeared to be. It was even better for the humans to score very late and hoping for the win of the coin toss in the over time. Well; we did not get that far. During the last seconds they finally decided to go for it, and after the elves did not position themselves very well, the thrower Jeremy Pokerrer was completely free to receive the ball and make the point. The only thing was to get out of the tackle zones of the defense. Here our Ogre Diddi helped and blocked the path partially free. Somehow the ball carrying lineman managed to get out there and reached his mate, who only needed to hold the ball during the handing over. And yes, as we all know, he slipped it....... This was really disappointing. Not the fact that the 69ers lost this match. This was to be expected, but after this come back in the second half anything seemed possible again and that is why this failed catch was this frustrating. The over time would have been really interesting, but we did not get the chance to see it.
All in all, a match you may find pretty unspectacular, where one of the pretty equal teams won and also deserved it, but looking at it in detail you might see that without this little bad luck in the special moment the whole thing might have ended the other way round.
Let us see when our 69ers will get their next chance. ”
