“Game Notes for this game... gumbi and I have been discussing the Underworld roster for some time as I am a big fan of it (and play it in ranked) and gumbi is trying to be competitive in a tough league such as the SWL.
In this game, my elf team was able to pretty much move about at will and scored 4 TD's without having to really decimate the underworld.
From this game, and to help us both as a reminder for our Underworld efforts, we learnt the following:
1. Wrestle on line rats is not so much crash hot. This I think is more the case vs agile elves because the elves can get up and move away easily and also the loss of the linerat TZ frees more space for other elves to pour through. gumbi's team also has a wrestle gobbo... perhaps not the best use of a double there.
2. Elves are a nightmare to defend against and would be even worse if it was woodies due to the leaping wardancers. My elves here, without fear, dodged around the loose screen offence of the Underworld and in addition with a well placed blitz, getting TZ's on the Underworld throwers (who lacked block / dodge) wasn't hard.
3. Kick skill murders Underworld and perhaps KoR should be considered on one thrower to use as a ball retriever. In this game, 3 kick offs landed in the Underworld end zone (which is lucky) but with Point 2 above, the Underworld got pressured big time by the fast moving elf catchers. Maybe a KoR retrieval and then a pass to the other Thrower would be best on turn one rather than a deep setting cage.
4. gumbi's team lacked 2 heads... only one gobbo from memory had it, so perhaps forget every other option such as wrestle etc until the offence is geared around 2 headed gobbos.
5. An extra apoth for inducement... wasnt needed and nor was the first one. Against elves, who will run around rather than through, perhaps babes / cards would be better.
“1. Yeah the wrestle is tough vs the elves, but has proven itself very useful against other races. With one SV out I was missing a block blitzer which would’ve helped. I think splitting one wrestle one block could be better? When one dies I will :) The key is that you cant cage with a wrestler, but it is good for knocking people down.
The gobbo with wrestle for protect but also for blitzing into cages uphill – I haven’t really had a chance to test it yet so we will see – he really needs double heads to go along with it.
2. Yeah I agree with this, it was very tough defence, again missing a SV hurt on this. I will watch the replay and see – I definitely didn’t set strong defence like in some earlier games.
The rain really hurt me as well, makes most agility plays very unreliable with AG3. Though, I think I worried about it too much.
3. Yeah KoR would be awesome, and that’s planned next skill! Extra arms has also been shown to be very useful, making agility moves with the throwers, wouldn’t trust a KoR then pass without the extra arms to make the catch work – could end up even worse.
4. yeah – Wrestle is a double so I took it, as I also struggle cage breaking and it gives me a new option, but I definitely need to skill up the gobbos – was very focused on the skaven at the start so they are lagging a bit behind.
5. Agree with this too, potentially too conservative – I have found you never know with the underworld. Babes and a bribe, perhaps this could’ve been better.
Other thoughts - Just coaching wise I missed some simple basic bloodbowl points which would’ve helped with the scoreline. Not rerolling the 2 dice block on the catcher who then ran to score. Not quite covering the ball when I had it surrounded in your half – I was too worried to grab it due to rain. Should’ve gone for it anyway as it was very easy for you to peel off a side and get in.
It is very hard to keep the troll relevant in this sort of game – he is very slow and unreliable, especially if you have to commit another play to keep him moving. Not sure how to improve that. ”
