The prospect of these wood elves and a coach of Jeguan's ability was a double edged sword. In one respect, I liked my chances - plenty of tackle, diving tackle, guard, dodge, side step, strength. In another, I was very wary of the tactical nous and agility and pace of the elves.
To really add to the mixing pot, I was tired. Inconsistent sleep for 3 days, and a 3 hour drive just before we played meant I wasn't really in the best of form - and it proved my undoing. I was taking much longer than usual to assess situations, and was struggling to concentrate.
The first half turned on an interception. It was quickly balanced out by a nice passing move or the equalizer. 1-1 at half time.
The elves ran straight up the middle after half time, and the orc pressure resulted in a serious injury to the wardancer General Balls. The other war dancer leapt and recovered to score. 2-1, 5 turns to go.
The orc maul was a bit slow, but things looked good. A few more elves got hurt, Jeguan's rerolls dwindled, and with 2 turns remaining the endzone was well within reach. Overtime looked promising for the 'Saws, whichever team kicked off.
However, I made a mess of the next turn, failing to spot the appropriate action, and Jeguan's defense proved sufficient as the only available scorer failed his dodge and the match ended in an anticlimactic fashion.
Congratulations go to Jeguan for making it through, but I will rue this as an opportunity lost.
