“"Pinky, chewie things!", Bimmle kept repeating, pointing with his massive first at the human team warming up. It felt like another favorable day: the sun was shining, 32,000 screaming fans were in the stands, and Da Fall Boyz were the heavy weight team it this bout. Yeah, it was looking like it was going to be a nice, easy day.
Looks can be deceiving.
As soon as the ball was up in the air, these guarding blitzers began lighting us up. We set up a wall, and caged the blitzers in, and were about to blitz one of the catchers attempting to cage the thrower holding the ball, but Kazil failed the dodge roll, taking himself out for the rest of the game. The Sawboys had warned "Da Coach" that all of the time Kazil had been spending at the gym, while it was increasing his strength, was wrecking havoc on his flexibility and dexterity. "Da Coach" was heard threatening to begin remedial ballet lessons for the entire team unless they started shaping up. We had thought that we still had a chance of stopping them, but the combined force of the blitzers simply knocked the orcs out of distance as the thrower and his blocking catchers made their way downfield. Rizggy came in with the super hero blitz, making three dodges to throw an underpowered block against the ball carrier in an attempt to knock him out of bounds. But, he came up Skulls. Nice try, Rizggy. A rookie thrower threw a mean foul on Marlack, fracturing the blitzer's skull, but the apoth came through, much to the delight of the fans. In an effort to put one last roadblock in the way of an easy human touchdown, Charick blitzed away a defender, and raced towards the endzone, jumping in front of the lead catcher. Or he would have, had he not tripped over his last step, injuring himself for the rest of the match. "Da Coach" was heard over the sounds of the cheering human fans, shouting, "BALLET!"
A greatly diminished orc team took to the field with a few ticks left of the first half, and attempted to set up a thrown goblin touchdown, but those humans swarmed us, including the use of a lighting bolt on Bimmle the troll, dashing that hope. End of the first half, down 1 to 0.
A touchback allowed us to get the ball up the midfield quickly, and to start our way into the opponents half, but they stopped us dead in our tracks. A run down to the opposite side was attempted, but a failed hand-off left the ball lying there, and the humans easily recovered. With a few more blocks, they were again racing towards the goalline. A desperate dodge by Shnerry is what ended up saving the day. With Shnerry marking the thrower with the ball, and no other human in sight, the thrower had no choice but to dodge past Shnerry. With a "SPLAT!" the thrower crashed to the ground, and all fell silent, watching, as it slowly dawned on Shnerry what he must do. As Gerrf dodged away and knocked a lineman down, Rizggy push another one clear, leaving an unmolested path for the ball to travel, as Shnerry attempted to pick up the ball and pass it to an awaiting Marlack. The ball was up, the ball came down, and was caught, as Marlack immediately started rushing towards the endzone. The humans catchers came pouring in, sandwiching in Marlack, just shy of the goalline. But, in true Marlack fashion, a single dodge and he was clear. Game tied, 1 all. A few more hits, and that was that.
Many thanks goes out to coach Grr_Argh for spectating this match and cheering me on. We orcs got outplayed badly in this match, and both xnoelx and I know it, as we have an ongoing friendly rivalry between us. Great game, mate. Well played.
Lastly, I kept my word, and with the skill roll Shnerry earned from that save-the-day-pass these orcs now have a kicker on the team. So long, touchbacks!
