#7 Gekkonidae – Smashed Hip (-MA) #11 Rainbow – Fractured Leg (MNG)
“We great Warriors of Gecko tribe. Make name for Tribe on field, as others before.
First game against wolf men, all beard and scowl. We play hard, they play hard. Many blows to both. Thunder run like thunder, make name for self. Rainbow bow out like runt hatchling. Gekkon very hurt, need play harder or else be eaten for the good of tribe. MVP Pygo for great blocking (although he eat rerolls like fat iguana).
“Before I started any serious coaching with these guys, I wanted to watch them scrimmage. to get a feel for how they play. Hopefully they would survive the scrimmage and relieve me of having to hold a second set of tryouts so soon.
A travelling Lizardman team was in town, so I took advantage of the convenience and scheduled a match, hoping the cold of Norsca would mean they’d be sluggish on the pitch making it easier for my own men.
I was amazed at how many people showed up to the match; the bleachers were filled to the brim with people from Graeling, outnumbering the Lizardman fans more than 3:1.
The game started out rough, as expected. The saurii prove to be too much for my team to handle, knocking out several players within the first few minutes of the game. Rori the Cursed lived up to his name and was killed early in the first half, terrifying his teammates and turning them all into little wimps. The skink scored his TD right at the buzzer for the half.
Despite the dousing with water, the two berserkers decided it would be nice to stay in the KO box a little while longer, lest they also meet the fate of Rori. Thor received the ball and starting running it down the pitch. Unfortunately his trajectory took him directly towards the opposing Krox, who promptly shoved him into the dirt. As a skink recovered the ball and rushed it towards the end zone, Ragnar lashed out and scored two casualties in quick succession, quickly proving that he was going to be able to live up to the potential I saw in him.
As the Lizardmen scored their second touchdown, Vemundr decided it would be a good time to wake up and go attempt to help out. Despite a good second half showing, it was much too little too late. The game ended 2-0 with broken egos and the broken remains of Rori.
The MVP went to Vemundr for his 2nd half magic, but unfortunately his magic wasn’t enough to keep the record from falling to 0-0-1. ”
