“XFL VIII Dark Elf - Round 4 (quarter final)

Going into this game, the team was looking quite nice in terms of skill although a little on the light side. A +AG witch and 2 mb blitzers were providing enough thrust to make them a threat to the higher TV sides in this XFL.

It started out promisingly; Jamie caged to draw the fireball but it was a spaced cage and instead I used lightening and the scatter was perfect. Eldril - who was my best player - gazed to open up the pass and it was 1-0! Perfect start! Quick play by Jamie and 1-1 (although defensively weak) then 2-1 although a blitzer suffered a -AV and apothecary offered only death, which I foolishly took.

Jamie ran into a snakes and I punted deep. The witch failed a go for it (rerolled) then the pick up, costing me the chance to score, but Jamie had forgotten he needed to score and left only 2 players in range. 1 gazed, 1 blitzed, so he turned his attentions to the witch and smashed her out the game (-AG) and dent my tournament prospects.

Still, 2-1 and receiving, it looked good. I baited to draw the aggressive defense, but the runner failed the dodge (rerolled) then fumbled the throw and Jamie stole it for 2-2. Now I'm getting stressed, with 2+ rolls seemingly impossible without rerolls and without the skills on the team for rerolling them I'm feeling that the game is beyond me.

Receiving, the thrower hits ANOTHER 1 on a pass (rerolled). SMH. I manage to cage in his half, but with leap and guard and less problems on 2+ rolls, the ball is spilled and there's a maul. It ends up popping out the wrong side for me, and the ST4 blitzer is next to it. Eldril finally fails something for me as he hits a 1 on the dodge (damn those 2+ rolls!) and I'm certain: GAME OVER!

This... is.... BLOOD BOWL! The blitzer snakes the dodge and I managed to recover it back. Still, it isn't safe, and Jamie works out the blitz but the ball scatters to one of my linemen, and unbelievably I get the winning TD.

Crazy game, as Jamie was | | this close to taking it only for Nuffle to literally pull the rug out from under him. I appreciate he didn't rise to my level of whining and dealt well with the catastrophic dice in key moments (I'm pretty sure he had a monopoly on snakes).

I'll have at best 4 loners for the semi-final. No chance! Then again, I had no chance in this game just before that blitzer snaked.”
