The game was going perfectly.
OK, I perhaps cost myself the equalizer by forgetting about the kick skill, then madness set in and let the ball bounce next to a gutter runner rather than in a free square (and it was caught), but it likely didn't matter. Still, it was a dumb few seconds.
2nd half SvenS hung back, and I didn't over commit. SvenS left the ball next to the jump up wight, the foul failed to break armour, and the ball was knocked loose.
The ball ended up in the hands of a linerat and the frenzy surf failed; I was in a great position.
I ran into skulls on the first block next turn and choked. At this point, I should have paused to think about what I was doing, but instead went into auto-play mode and just did things instinctively - and wrongly.
A double surf turned into a single surf, the ball was knocked loose with a both down (wrestle) by the last player to move and thus was still available (as opposed to being knocked loose on the surf blitz with 2 players still to finish moving), and then a hero gutter runner pulled off the pick up and ran through tacklezones to get clear.
That was an expensive choke... I really got punished for it. I hit skull/bothdown on the blitz on the ball, then the next blitz injures the cpomb wolf. If I had held my nerve and took my time, the double surf was probable, the ball likely covered or (worst case) backfield for SvenS, and I would have almost certainly won - with wolf intact.
*sigh* How I loathe thee sometimes Nuffle. Fact: every hit on a wolf in this game passed armour (thus the casualty was somewhat inevitable). Fact: all my rerolls gone on double skulls in the 2nd half. Fact: SvenS got let off big time and he knows it - both by me and Nuffle.
Good luck in the final tournament. :)”
