“A funny and hard-fought draw for the characters of Firehurler. Though we made something of an effort at it, there was no stopping the Goddesses from scoring in their game-opening drive. We boxed them in, pinned them to the sideline, blocked them off, but always they found enough of an escape route to squirm free.

Our saving grace was that we forced it early.

Our drive in response was a bit harrowing. It was a kick that landed in the end zone with just our thrower back there to retrieve (we had somehow gone down 2 players against an elven side). Our attempted escape resulted in a pass that clanged to the ground near midfield. We breathed a sigh of relief when a failed pickup and a lack of rerolls by the Goddesses gave us another chance. On the redo, Denrik managed to catch a pass from Kyrus and run out of range of the elves blitzes.

The second half started with a touchback. We KNEW we wanted to grind out a full 8 turns if we wanted a hope of anything better than a tie. I wasn't confident that my characters had even a 2-turn defense in them against the high-elf attack. We handed the ball to Glumg...

What ensued was a long, wandering drive without much progress, as our ogre kept safely in a cage as we ensured that the elves couldn't get even a 1db against him. He did a good job of staying on task, too, except for one turn of stupidity and the final break-away attempt where he failed completely. The Goddesses had another chance to take the win, but tackle zones prevented the pass from getting away and we took the ball back in T8. We came a 4+3+ dodge through tackle zones from winning it at the end, but Greuder just didn't have it in him. He still won MVP though...
