“First game of the season and the Dwarves fancied their chances of a win in this match up. Pact are usually a fairly easy win with Dwarves. So MbP went in with high hopes.
The game started with a typical Dwarf drive grinding the ball down field and out blocking the Pact team in the process though the Dwarves only managed 1 injury en route.
They also managed a brace of KOs but they both returned. The troll managed to BH a Blocker. Which meant by turn 8 of the first half the Pact team were a player up.
The Pact team went for the TTM OTT but they had to use their RR on the hand off to their little Goblin. Then the ravenous troll decided to eat the goblin rather than throw him down field which meant the 2nd half was 10 aside.
The 2nd half saw the pact receiving and the played a very good drive, splitting the Dwarves in to two groups, and started to pull the amount of blocks closer to level. After a few turns though the dwarves got back on top of the blocking battle and starter winning out again and put a TZ on the Dark Elf ball carrier. The dark elf hopped away and made a hand off to a marauder who ran down field.
The dwarves managed a 1 dice block on the ball carrier and brought him down but with their puny movement couldn't provide any real cover and the Marauders blocked away the Dwarf Blitzer and picked the ball up to run it in with 3 turns remaining for the Dwarves. But not before they managed to MNG a troll slayer.
Despite the Dwarves large blocking advantage they found them selves only having cause 1 cas and 2 ko all game which meant they had 9 v 10 for the final 3 turns.
The dwarves needed to decide whether to consolidate the victory which would have been sensible due to their low Ma or go for the win. The Dwarves decided to go for the win though, and punched a hole in the centre of the pact defence and moved a couple of dwarves in to the Pact half. Then came the deciding moment of the game. The Dwarf Runner failed to pick up the ball with Sure Hands leaving him self isolated way down field after a good kick from the Pact team.
The Pact team then rushed 3 players down field all within scoring range. The dwarves at this point still had enough free players to consolidate the draw or at least make life very difficult for the pact. But they chose to try for the win, a pick up was required a pass and a catch and they had a RR all they needed to do first was knock the troll over with the troll slayer, he failed his dauntless roll though meaning it was only a 1D block and then proceeded to roll a skull. This was RR'd and the troll went down, now for the pick up and pass. There was still a free Sure Hands RR for the pick up though without a RR the pass would have to be a 4+ now and then 3+ catch, which if it had worked would have been a certain TD with much of the pact team in the Dwarf half. However it wasnt to be the Dwarf Runner failed his pick up again in the penultimate turn, leaving the pact a fairly simple 2 dice block and 3 + to win.
The pact did not feel the pressure and walked the ball in for the win.
Good game and well played for the win, lets hope next time your Av isn't so impenetrable and the carrier isn't so cack-handed :P
