“HUBBA Season 5; Division 3 - Round 5

In the 5th round Decadence faced up against a staunch Dwarf team in Castle Rock. In what ended up being the most one sided game they've played in, and their biggest defeat, there was rarely a chance for Decadence as the Dwarves played to their strengths to grind out the win. Decadence first half defence, so strong in all their previous games, could do little to oppose the Rock as they ran down a flank in a classic 1 drive half. The Pact had suffered, losing 3 players to KOs in the first quarter who didn't return for the remainder of the game.
With numbers clearly against them Decadence knew there was no chance of driving upfield for their own TD and adopted a change of tack. Newcomer Solomon scooped up the ball in the backfield while Fulgrim created a hole in the dwarf line and 3 marauders ran through, fouling Grigrim off the field in the process. The dwarves moved up high looking to press their advantage so Solomon bootlegged to the right and aimed a pass downfield, hoping to exploit the dwarfs slow speed and their own numbers in the gap. It looked promising, and the chance was there to tie the game. He tried to get all he could on it, squeezing the ball through a tight angle into the open space behind the closing dwarves. Unfortunately he got it just wrong and left it low. It was still a shock to the watching crowd when Calo jumped and plucked it out of the air. This effectively ended the game as the dwarves were able to sit the ball behind their superior players and it was never recovered.
The game also took it's toll on the pact who suffered a run of injuries to compound the loss of Lucius in their last game. While their hopes of achieving anything this season had long since faded, their plan to build their squad now also looks to be in jeopardy and with just 2 games to go they run the risk of entering Season 6 in no stronger position than they entered Season 5.”
