However, a 1 turn touchdown was entirely possible. A good set up, lots of nice 3 die blocks by tackleless elves vs the bloding Dodger, and White Night was pushed into scoring range; we then made a side detour, and cas-ed a line elf - nice! but this prevented the touchdown, as we failed the gfi over the goal line.
The second half started, 10 players for the Whispers against 9 dodgers.
Then, apparently, the Winter Whispers shape shifted into my Undead team Tortured Creepers. With a Get the Ref! Kick off result, we started fouling anything on the ground. On turn 1, this meant 3 more dodgers were cas-ed. Then we failed a pick up, which lured Mossbeard straight into our trap! Simon lunged forward; only, Dirk (strength 4 blitzer) who was supposed to support simon snake eyed! Now both key players from the Dodgers are on the ground. Foul! OUT! Blitz another elf! OUT!
The entire second half went like this. Winter Whispers gang fouled, and left -2 blocks on the ball carrier open to the Dodgers; who, turn after turn, successfully popped the ball loose, only to fail a dodge, or a gfi, or something, and end up on the ground.
There was at least one time when a lucky string of 4+ and 3+ rolls would have netted him the win.
Then overtime was the same thing all over again. 4 Dodgers left; the Whispers rolled 11 pushes or skulls on the opening turn, and despite having our ball carrier deep in their half, Dirk dodged dodged dodged again to knock the ball loose; only to have the only other dodger around snake eye his dodge to pass the ball free. If he had rolled 4 3+ and 4+ dice, he would have had the ball more than half way into the Whispers end, and only 2 gfi's and a 2 die block with Blockle vs a dodge catcher would have stopped him from winning. But it was not to be.
The Winter Whispers move on! And wonder how long they can be undead boot machines...
Not a very fair game to Mossbeard; his skill in the first half clearly showed he should have had a good shot at winning, but Nuffle wanted to say otherwise.
Thanks for the match, and for the good wishes!”
