“Another fun match against a really fun coach.
The undead opted to receive because they had a chainsaw up their sleeve of which they wanted to get maximum use.
The game started promisingly enough with the first two blocks resulting in KOs.
After that the elves used their dodginess to full effect, limiting the chances for the mummies and the saw to get stuck in.
Lots of good positional play by the elfy defence slowed the ball down to a crawl and it wasn't until turn 8, with four elves sleeping, that it finally crossed the line in the ethereal hands of Phantom. 1-0
Half two almost began with a very elfy equaliser but Fanariel was unlucky to be tripped as he strode towards the line. The Almost Gone were unable to capitalise with noone near enough to try to pick up the ball without risking making the situation worse. As a result the Avengers recovered the ball in turn two and quickly switched it to the other side of the field. The undead lumbered after them but that merely opened up the possibility of a double-reverse. This was easily exploited with a couple of dodges, a couple of GFIs and a dead accurate pass to a poorly marked receiver. 1-1
An attempted onside kick almost worked but was judged a fraction short by the hometown referee. The undead immediately set to work clearing a path down the flank with Mother Teresa blessing one of catchers most vigourously. The elves defended valiantly, constantly getting in the way and twice dodging three times to try -2d blocks, but the bashing continued and the odds worsened. On the final turn of the match the star thrower almost raised himself to hero status with three consecutive dodges into and out of multiple tacklezones before getting a double defender down on the ball carrier. Unfortunately Elvis had his dancing shoes on and dodged nimbly away. All that was left was for Mother T to send the thrower off to sign autographs in the crowd and Elvis could step in for the winner 2-1.
Fun game, tense and desperately close at times. Nuffle decided this one for the Undead.
After spending half the match on his back the "Collector of Souls" (un)lives on and looks forward keenly to a rematch...
