With everything to play for, and a determination to make up for recent bad form, the Z-men faced down the Orcs in typically Khemri-grind fashion.
Some mediocre blocking in the first half saw the Greens' slippery thrower get away for an easy touchdown, but a miraculous hit saw Dr. Ross taking an early shower (thanks only to the efforts of the apo, else the hulking black-orc would have left in a bag...)
Strength advantage firmly in hand (despite the heat), the Z-men looked to equalise with plenty of time. Unfortunately a deeeeep kick and a failure to pickup immediately put the ball under threat by goblin hi-jinks. Coach stuelle called for a TTM play, and Estelle grabbed Mr. Fly, drew back her(?) arm... and stuffed the struggling goblin into her toothy maw. OMNOMNOM!
The crowd went completely berserk, and cheers and jeers erupted from the stadiums for a full turn. What a game this is!
A last-gasp (highly unlikely) attempt at equalising didn't pay off - while lucky enough to handoff and move the ball forward, a minor misstep saw Biclops trip and fall before getting a chance to pass to 'Fumbblfingers' ReallyBigGuy...
The second half saw the Z-men prepare for a long grindy drive, banking on attrition to leave the orcs unable to capitalise in OT.
The weather had other ideas though with Lyre incapacitated by the heat... and then the blazing sun suddenly changed to pouring rain! Biclops stayed cool, and managed to scoop the ball up on his second attempt, despite being under pressure from orc blitzers who had rushed through a gap in the Z-men line.
Everything else went pretty much to plan, and despite a valiant defense from the Greens, the ball was carried over the line to equalise in the dying seconds of regulation time.
OT:
The rain stayed with us. Biclops remained the epitome of calm and eyeing the high kick with his stunning powers of depth-perception, moved directly under it...and caught it! From there, it became a fairly standard drive to the endzone. Biclops was so caught up in his task that he even completely forgot to score at his first opportunity, despite the roaring crowd attempting to remind him that OT was sudden death!
In the end, a highly enjoyable match for game #99.
Game #100 in the cup. Can the luck continue?
Thanks for the game stuelle2 - good luck with the team, and I'm sure we'll see you on the pitch again sometime.”
