Almost an identical matchup on paper, with the Warriors enjoying a Blocking Ulf (if the only Ulf on the team), a MA 8 Runner, a Dirty Player and a Kicker, plus one Loner lino, and the rookie 'Sons hiring a chainsaw to try to "level" the playing field and give their bench just a little depth...
Under a Very Sunny sky the game started in chaos, as the Warriors received but Perfect Defense was followed by both teams losing players on Turn 1, and the Warriors advancing a ragged cage to midfield but seeing their Snow Troll KO'd with another player apo'd back into the reserves box, the ball knocked loose by the end of Turn 2, and them down noticeably in players and strength.
Turn 3 several 1d blocks gave them some breathing room, but the ball declined to be picked up, and some chain-pushes and a lucky bounce gave a 'Sons player the ball and running for the goal line, alone but mostly screened behind him. Four turns of trading blocks left 3 Warriors KO'd and 2 more on the reserve bench, while the 'Sons had a total of only one BH and one KO'd and so enjoyed a 9:6 player advantage by Turn 8, and the defensive score ended the half 1-0 for Lindesfarne.
Second half saw only 9 Warriors trying to stop 10 'Sons plus the chainsaw, who did good work in removing the Snow Troll and another player KO'd, which helped considerably toward the Turn 5 score, because meanwhile the Warriors had killed one lineman outright and fouled an Ulf and another lino off the pitch KO'd.
Down 0-2 and receiving end of Turn 5, 9 Warriors (with both Berserkers out) faced 9 'Sons (who were only missing Linos and the 'Saw), but the 'Sons defense set up strong to one side, turtling up and completely abandoning the other side of the pitch. A very short kick to their favoured side set up the Warriors to push their MA 8 runner up the field to the 8 with a half-cage and some additional screening, and a "both down" by the Sons' Snow Troll ensured that score end of Turn 6.
Kicking Turn 7, down 1-2 and only 2 turns left on the clock, the Warriors flooded the LoS, and a very short kick to one side put the pressure on the 'Sons to hold on for the win. But it was now their turn for some lucky 1d blocks, and a RR'd pickup behind what had become a strong screen looked fairly solid. A skulled Warrior block did them no favours Turn 7, and a no-fail Turn 8 for the 'Sons sealed the deal.”
