DI received first half, grinding and zigzagging. Finally their Skaven renegade broke loose and went towards the endzone. However, the khemries answer with a risky blitz (dodge + 2gfi) and the 1DB is a pow! DI regain the ball anyway and scores later.
Not really enough turns for the khemris to score quickly so last turns of half 1 is just bashing and then a completion for the blodge-SS Thro-Ra Very Happy
Second half the Powerslaves trying to grind but get surrounded, really well played screening by DI. However, khemri ball carrier finally breaks loose and goes for it last turn, after some chainpushing, he scores for the draw.
Very non-bloody game btw, only one BH. Also first two fouls by the khemris the half 1 ended in bans... (double 1 and double 2). ”
Decadence 3rd round game followed a bye win over Quetzovercoatl Athletic as the Slann were "scared to play them" and "too afraid to show up, hur hur" according to some in the dressing room. Whether this is true or not is debatable. "Travel Issues" is the official reason stated on the match card. Still, the Pact won't mind. It was just nice to get a win on the board so early into the campaign.
Onto the 3rd round, and a familiar match-up against Powerslave. The teams were well matched physically, strong up front but not too handy with the ball in the backfield. The match itself played out almost a carbon copy of their meeting last season, and the Pact can count themselves unlucky not to come out with a win.
Their game-plan was simple. Slowly grind the Khemri and force them to try and play the ball. If the game got open then Decadence would have the advantage. It started well. A hard push up the field was met with good resistance but the Pact were able to use their superior speed to switch their attack left to right and then back left again leaving the slower Khemri cover floundering. There was a sticky moment when a skeleton landed an incredible blitz on the carrier, dodging and pumping his bones before flooring the rat. The attack was well covered though and the ball easily scooped up and ran in. A few hits saw the end of the first.
The second half saw a well practiced defense almost complete it's task. The Khemri grind was slowed by a screening play and heading into the final third of the half there was still a lot of ground to cover. Powerslave broke free, almost alone. The Pact were a little naive, and worried by the unusual sidestepping Khemri moved to cover the run-in rather than blitz. A trip by Solomon left a gap in the screen and Powerslave was able to run in the TD, busting his non-existent lungs. A good kick-off prevented Jacob from attempting the goblin hurl and the game was tied.
The game was also notable for it's unusually low casualty count, especially considering the relative merits of the sides involved.
Coach John 'Madman' will be working hard this week on defensive drills. Next time the teams meet the Pact are determined to hold on for the win...”
