“Before the match, it looked like 2 Blockers, an Accurate Passer, a Kicker and lots of speed vs. only 3 unskilled St 4, 3 unskilled Horns, and some slow linos, but AV 7 and bad dice at the wrong time was what lost Londinium this game.
The Elves started by KO'ing a Nurgle lino and fielding the ball safely, but the Nurglanders answered by KO'ing an Elf lino of their own, and then pressuring across the ragged LoS while the elfs failed early dodge rolls, allowing the Nurgles to surf and foul players, consolidate on their defensive position, and, finally, Turn 4, put a Pestigor centered backfield, threatening the lone Passer no matter where he moved.
Turn 5 the Elves managed to dodge one down lino barely free of TZ's near midfield, but the pass failed, and the Nurgles swarmed it, collecting it Turn 6 and forming most of a cage, and then 1d surfing another elf, 5 out (but all KO'd or in reserves). A lone, unskilled elf dodged and 1d blitzed, and took himself and the ballcarrier down with Both Down. The Nurglanders recovered and screened, and fouled out the Nannies' sidestepping blitzer BH, watched the (again, lone, unskilled, down and marked) lino dodge but trip on the gfi for the blitz, and scored Turn 8.
The 2 reserves and the 1 best of the 3 KO's woke up, putting 8 elves to kick to 10 Nurglanders, altho' a High Kick result and successful catch offset the deep kick. However, the ballcarrier was not fully screened, and a 1st-block RR'd Both-Down gave the Elfs a chance. But the blitz used a RR on the first dodge and then failed the second, and the ensuing Nurgle cage ground slowly downfield against fewer and fewer elves, with those few breaking one corner and then getting pushed out again and again, until Turn 7 a chance to handoff and score with the previous Pestigor was taken, for the game and the skill, no stalling.
The elves pushed a pair deep, and Turn 8 got the pass but not the handoff, and that was the game, 2-0.
With a little better dice Coach MtA would have had a chance, but the Nurgles never let him get that chance. Next time!
