“Coach Shoe of the Eaterz had to do some real motivation speaking to get nhis rats ready for this one. Coming off the heals of the emotional victory/thrashing against the Miners, the Eaterz were certainly entering this game at less than full strength. The Beibs was still licking his wounds along with the Rookie Rogre leaving the Eaterz hitting corps as Miley and Miley alone. Luckily, the Eaterz still brought their quartet of gutters and they came ready to play.
The Norsicans and their duelling pombers took the kick and immediately begin jumping on every furry rat they knocked down. The rats took a passive defense but left Miley a little to exposed early, causing he to be targeted but luckily, she took her time when she strapped on her armour during pregame and she stayed on the pitch. A well placed rat foot removed Bjarni, the rats top priority, from the pitch early and that loss wounded the Norse bash effort, especially in regards to the gutters. A score shortly there after gave the Norse the advantage but left the rats ample opportunity to respond, which they were able to do. Ugly Norse KO rolls made it look like the game was lost but at the half, they started waking up.
Tied 1-1, the rats were caught flat footed on a second half blitz and surrendered the intiative to the Norseicans. Withdrawing deep into their own zone, the Rats were hoping to bait the Norse team into chasing them but were worried about the pounding their line was taking. The Norse advanced but the rats were able to turn the Norse edge and a roaring rage from the Norse Wampa ended up giving the rats all the room they needed to break out. The final Norse pushed was thwarted and the rats escaped with the win.
Was a fun match and I am very pleased to not have any dead gutters. GL Smeat with the Noldorins and going forward :)”
“2nd-to-last game of Season VIII, a "must win" for both teams (altho' the best Lindisfarne could do was to achieve a 3-way tie, which they'd lose, but have bragging rights as a 1st-year team).
Both teams were hoping their heavy hitters would give them the advantage they needed against AV 7 - but both coaches repeatedly found only disappointment there (if also relief that the other failed!) as those heavy hitters contributed surprisingly little, and so all that left were the usual linemen, and three MA 9+ dodgey rats vs. one Norse Tackler - with predictable results.
The Norse had 2 Frenzy Jump-up Pombers (one w/ Tackle), plus the MB Frenzy Blocking Troll, while the Rats had one Pomber (their ClawPomber being MNG). During the game, these combined threw about 30 blocks with maybe half of those Piled On, for a total result of a few KO's and 1 journeyman lino BH'd. The Rats still had their Apo at the end of the game, and the Norse didn't use theirs until Turn 14, to keep a BH ballhandler in the game for the last kick.
The game itself?... The Norse received and caged, and pushed forward nicely, but that fell apart just within scoring range and they were forced to score Tun 4. The rats ran around the Norse, who's only claim was that they were able to pressure them to to score Turn 7, and so get another (as we now know) meaningless 3 blocks on the LoS before the half.
2nd half - same story. The rats ran around the Norse, but who were again able to pressure a Turn 6 score, and so had 2 turns to tie. The kick was coffin-corner deep, and after some frenzying the only open player in scoring range was an Ag 2 Ulf - coin toss to catch it. The 5+ pass was good, the catch... dropped, game over.
Against all odds, no perms - both teams' armour just kept holding up, and when it didn't the Stuns kept flooding by. Both coaches know they dodged a bullet on that count, and the Norse put "more Tackle" on their between-season to-do list.”
