After a very weird cat-and-mouse game on the on defense, where the Nurgle killer repeatedly loses his nerve, the lizards manage to loose the ball from the unskilled Pestigor. However, an absurd sequence of Foul Appearance fails, -2D Nurgle Blocks, and exquisite agility rolls allow the Nurgle to score a very unlikely TD on turn 8.
A similar sequence of poor Lizard performances then commences in the second half, with the saurus unable to make any good hits on the unskilled Rotters and Warrior, and a pick-up fail on the ball. As if it was choreographed, a skink chooses that particular moment to fail a 1/81 block, and the Nurgle sweep down the field to effortlessly GFI twice, hit the skink, and grab the ball. The saurus hitters then choose that moment to break the rotters... but they are 1 turn too late. In customary form, the sole saurus that can make a blitz on the ball does.. pushes rerolled to push. But even with that failing, the skinks can mark the ball, right? We just need to free one up to mark the ClawPOMBer, lest he blitz the skink away. To do that, we need to roll a not-Skull on a one die block. Thus, we roll a Skull. Nurgle hit skink, Nugle dodge, Nurgle score. Rerolls are not necessary for this team!
Now with 5 turns to score 2 TDs for a tie, the Lizards line up again. After another series of bumbling blocks, we seem to have developed a reasonable chance of scoring one TD. The only thing that must not happen is that a certain Saurus must not fall down --and if he does, a certain unskilled Rotter must not make a dodge and 2 GFI to hit the skink. Which of course, he does, no reroll necessary.
HOWEVER. At that point, the heavens opened, and Nuffle woke up. Nuffle was ANGRY with the Nurgle. The ball flew from skink to crowd, crowd to endzone, endzone right into the hands of a saurus, who was standing awkwardly in the middle of nowhere, not knowing what to do. Well, the saurus DID have Break Tackle, but better to try to mark him with someone, right? The Nurgle killer (who had skilled into a ClawPOMB-JumpUp superstar the previous game, made a simple dodge away from a saurus.... and fell to his death. Regen fail.
Ball in hand, the lizards began turn 6.
"What a way to end the game," coach stboub remarked, "losing your best player...." as I threw a few blocks before scoring.
"Well," I said, observing the trio of St5 Nurgle Warriors, "I don't think he was your best player." At that moment, I was throwing a block against the nastiest of the Warriors–– a +ST/Block/Tentacles/SideStep monstrosity–– and I was about to say "I think this guy is best player" when, what to my wondering ears should I hear but...."SPLOOSH".
One of the craziest moments I've ever experienced in Blood Bowl.
Unfortunately, the Lizards were not able to make the second TD and tie. But we were finally able to pay back coach stboub for the games he stole from us! Payed back in blood is better than no payback at all.
cheers”
