The lizard started off in bad shape–– undermanned, sporting 4 rookie skinks and 2 rookie saurus, and suffering a Blitz! from the Vault Tec Squad in the opening kick-off. Although they were able to secure the ball, they couldn't seem to knock any of the humans off their feet, and a nasty blitzer gave the Kroxigor a career-ending injury on the next turn (Apo was brought out to rescue him). Things looked very grim for the lizards, but a minor overcommitment into by the Vault Tec Squad into the Roughrider's side allowed them to screen a skink against the sideline and race towards the human Endzone,
In the next drive, a very odd sequence of events unfolded, with the Ogre on the LOS catching the kick, with 4 turns to score. However, the humans were able to extricate the Ogre (who decided he having the ball), foul the Krox off the pitch again, and badly hurt another saurus on the next turn. A series of tricky blocks allowed the Roughriders to put 2 different players on the ball, but a hand-off was then made to a blitzer, who looked very capable of scoring. However, a lucky chain-push and some dodgy skinks stalled the advance again, and the humans could not score in the first half.
The second half, a very welcome Perfect Defense allowed the Lizards to stunty the human offense and tie up more than their share of players. A risky skink-blitz on the ball failed, and things looked a bit dire. However, Cranston Snord was able to use his amazing Dodge skills to break from the tackle of a lineman and blitz the ball, which was recovered by a lucky skink, and the Lizards made their second TD.
Now, with 6 turns to score TDs, the Vault Tec Squad played an aggressive attack (thanks to a high kick that put their thrower, ball in hand, on the wide-zone LOS). The scored on turn 5, and the Lizards with left to simply defend their 2-1 advantage for 3 turns.
A reroll acquired on the Kick-Off proved invaluable, and they manage to screen temporarily. Unlucky blocks by the humans prevented them from gaining much ground, and the skink was able to squirm his way into a corner, with a wee companion to keep him secure.
Coach OenarLod played a great game, and it was nerve-wracking and thrilling to the end.
