In what was almost certainly a "must win" game for both teams to have any real hope for the post-season, the Expats chose to receive, but Lamia U surprised the fans by knocking out 2 key players early during that opening drive (St 5 MB KO'd on Turn 1, Frenzy saurus surfed into reserves Turn 2), forcing the Expats to scramble to make a score Turn 6.
This gave LUU 3 turns to respond (with the St 5 MB saurus still snoring), and flawed Expat defensive play on Turn 8 allowed Lahmia U a good shot at tying at the half, but the RR'd catch in the end-zone was dropped, 1-0 Expats at the half, but not before the LUU MB Wight had been handed his final death.
Altho' by now the KO'd MB Saurus had returned to start the 2nd half, LUU repeated the KO streak with 2 different key players (Krox on Turn 1, DT-SS'er on Turn 3), and pushed easily up one side until a Turn 3 GFI blitz popped the ball loose, but they immediately recovered in a TZ with a nearby Ghoul and scored Turn 4 to tie.
With neither KO waking up to start Turn 5, 6 Sauri and 3 skinks faced 11 Undead for the go-ahead score. LUU used their numbers advantage to pressure up, but a skink found a seam and streaked beyond blitz range, and scored to end Turn 6, Expats up 2-1.
Again no one woke up, so the same 9 Expats (without Krox or DTss'er) lined up to stop 11 Undead for 2 Turns. Lamia U pushed 3 potential scorers deep downfield, but then snaked a final gfi, putting the ball on the ground unprotected, and allowing an Expat scoop and medium-deep punt. A cunning T16 chain push kept the tie mathematically possible, but luck ran out on the odds-against desperation play.”
