The Expats chose to receive, and the Wulf got warmed up right away for the 'Jacks, fouling out one saurus KO'd and stunning another. But to start Turn 3, to move a mark off the ballcarrier, the Expats snaked the only GFI on the 2nd block of the opening Frenzy blitz, and that saurus BH'd himself off the field in the fall. The 'Jacks popped the ball free, but it landed in the hands of another skink - the drive was still alive.
And that's when the Expats coaching staff stepped behind the bleachers to smoke some crack.
Turn 4, they had the free manpower to cage or screen (or just fall back out of blitz range), but started to do one and then tried to do the other - and as a result, had neither at the end of the turn. The RR'd blitz popped the ball, and their St 4 Sure Hands Passer recovered - and with 2 sauri and their DT-ss'er out (to a Guard lino out for the Norse), the Expats had their hands full. Turn 6 a snaked Break Tackle for the blitz allowed them in scoring range, and 2 turns of give-and-take left the 'Jacks with 2 dodges (4+, 3+) and a GFI for the score - they didn't even need their last RR, Jacks 1-0.
By 2nd half the bash battle had been all in favour of the 'Jacks, and only 9 Lizards faced a full starting Norse roster (less Helmut Wulf, who had started on defense to survive the odds all first half).
The Expats knew they needed a defensive score to just tie it up, but Turn 1 the first plan to mark the ballcarrier failed despite a RR, and a backup plan tripped on a GFI, and for a Stun, before any skinks could follow that up. That left the door wide open for the 'Jacks to get the star Cheney in scoring range Turn 2. The Expats tried a -2d on the ballcarrier, but with no luck. As the Norse pushed closer, the Expats struggled one more turn, but Turn 4 opened with Stuns on the only players in range and the ball on the 2, with 4 Norse (inc. one Guard) supporting the St 4 ballcarrier.
Two more Turns of odds-against desperation plays predictably failed and only resulted in worse position, and Turn 6, badly out numbered and out-positioned, still facing a Wizard, out of Re-Rolls and with the Norse having needed not one of their 3, and again facing all that even if somehow it went to Overtime, with the ballcarrier beyond blitz range, the Expats threw in the towel to preserve what was left of their players.
Grats to coach BlueDevil on the season championship. As much as we hate to say it (being forced to say it 3 seasons in a row now)... next year!”
