as for replacing hobbled players.

my 2 cents.
if you get rid of crippled players it means you don't have to play with crippled players. by definition crippled players are sub optimal.
that way your tv is lower so you don't have to play the high tv killers (me).
at lower tv you also make more cash per game to help replace players.
and you're not artificially handicapping your team.
in particular niggled players are targets and will end up spending less time on the pitch which is a huge disadvantage when it comes to dwarves that need numbers.

one more thing and this is just my opinion others may obvious know better but i think pro is a waste of tv. 20tv every turn he's on the pitch for a %50 chance at a reroll is not great.
to a lesser extent i think fend is rubbish at high tv. especially when there's clawpombers with juggs around.
sure those skills may help occasionally but the more efficient approach would be to choose skills (and therefore tv) that you can get maximum benefit from.
