“In their first game after losing Farmer Ed, the goats faced another band of little hairy creatures, the so-called "skaven" of the forest. We won the day against these unpleasant little rat-things, but paid dearly for it.
Aside from an injury to Doc, the first half was a fairly easy stroll down the field for Griff and his teammates. The rats employed some kind of dubious ball-and-chain thing, but the goats just ducked under it and hurled its wielder to the ground. The spiky ball landed on him -- not sure if he was hurt or not, because the ref ordered him off the field. He couldn't get off the field, and I think a couple players stepped on him, but eventually the pitch was cleared and play resumed.
The goats are getting really good at synchronizing their reaction time with the kickoff. They managed to blitz onto the other side of the field twice during the second half... but with tragic results the first time, when Maria was killed by the rat ogre. The ogre blindsided her while she was leaping to grab the ball, which seems pretty unsporting. Anyway, one of their ninja-type guys knocked himself out diving away from Farmer's Boy John, who obliged by picking up the ball and running it in. A second blitz proved less successful, with the rats scoring anyway. Oh well!
A new level of competition brings with it a new level of danger, as both of the last two games have been marred by serious injury or death. Farmer Ed is looking into retaining the services of a cleric, healer or surgeon who can operate both on humans and on large livestock. The search may take a while, though.”
