Kicked, and a Blitz! and the ball landing near the sidelines (but beyond reach) led to good pressure, but Coach W pulled a rabbit out of his hat and escaped, and the Sons had to chase the St 4 Blodging ballcarrier the length of the field and only barely stopped the score (after failing several times due to no RR), 0-0.
By 2nd half, both teams were beat up a bit (9 Sons v. 8 CW Marauders) - but the CMW had got the worst of the deal by a little, missing an Ag 4 beastman BH and a MB KO'd, and a rookie dead, while SotMS only were missing the star Boomer, a j-man (-AV'd), and their (now useless) Kicker KO'd - altho' they had used their Apo Turn 5 to save their MB Blitzer from -St, able to play again in a rare and surprising display of medical competence.
But apparently the cas dice had only just warmed up - a rookie C-Warrior KO'd on the 1st turn, and their Tackle/MB 'Warrior rr'd pushes to skulls to KO himself to start their Turn 3. The Sons replied by KO'ing a rookie beast their Turn 4, and another on Turn 5 - and that looked like the practical end of the contest, with the ball on the 5, and only 2 Chaos Warriors and 2 rookie beasts (one across the field marked by an Ulf) facing 9 of the best Sons, and most of CWM on the ground to start their turns.
But if Coach Smeat had scrambled to stop the 1st half score, Coach Wolburn would not be outdone. One of those Warriors was K'Grath, a 2-headed Ag 4 blodge baller, and when the Sons got careless Turn 5 and left the ballcarrier behind a 3-man screen on the 5 but within possible blitzing range, the prone K'Grath elf-dodged past 2 screeners and clear behind the ballcarrier with 2 GFI's (3+, 4+, 2+, 2+, 2+) and RR'd 2d skulls for a Pow! The ball obediently scattered OB and sailed to midfield, behind all the Sons, and within range of one lone standing (but marked) Beastman - who failed the dodge.
Turn 6 the Sons screened but failed the pickup thru RR, and so with all players starting prone CWM blitzed the cage open (with their last RR, Both-Down to Pow), double-GFI'd to make the pickup, and Punted even deeper! (2+, 2+, 4+, missed 6+ Int, and a missed 5+ throw). Now with only 2 Turns (if also w/ 2 RR), the Sons once again knocked their opposition down (all "both of them"), and gathered the ball (via RR), but did not try the pass. CMW double-marked the ballcarrier, but a chainpush freed him - and a 2+ handoff was all the more that was needed for the 1-0 score (and the T16 kick was uneventful).
Mad Respect to Coach Wolbum, who scrambled and fought until the last, and came with a couple 3+ rolls of stealing the game despite the odds. Next time!”
