#9 Pephela – Smashed Knee (NI)
Despite kicking off to a Blitz! Blackbox Suicide's opening offense was devastating, and removed two rats, stunned a third, and niggled Pephela (who would later go on to be awarded consolation MVP, skill, and roll 5,5... sigh...). More brutal fouls soon followed, and the Lost children were quickly left with 4 players on the pitch.

In a show of evident pity/sportsmanship, coach samplebug decided to score on turn 5 rather than continue his barrage of disturbingly effective fouls. Seemingly in scorn of the two induced Babes, the Underworld KO rolls were 1,1,1,5, with both Blitzers and the Troll staying out. Coupled with counter Blitz! on the kick-off, it looked like the Underworld might truly have been thwarted.

However a blessèd kick put Prosigoreus in scoring range, and a series of lucky dodges screened him off from his pursuers. Blackbox suicide scrambled into their backfield to make a screen of their own... but Prosigoreus boldly blew through himself against them, dodging through 2 tacklezones and just making into the endzone on turn 6.

The final drive in the first half looked promising for the Necro at kick-off, but a series of terrible blocks prevented them from properly advancing the ball, and they were unable to score again.

The second half began in a wretched state for the Underworld, with one reroll burned on turn 9 to give Presipio a chance to attempt his butchering (which failed). Turn 2 saw him squander the last reroll on a (admittedly risky) GFI, which again failed and sent him into the KO box. Now with 7 players and 0 RRs against the Necro 9, things looks quite dire... But again, the trio of Temerian, Castilio, and Prosigoreus (with 6 heads between them!) raced past the Necro screen and stalled at the endzone. The wolfs (cursed with having only 1 head each) did not prove quite so nimble and could not save the defense. A lone ghoul came disturbingly close to ruining everything, on turn 7, but Siggy proved his worth once again, dodged past, and brought in the final score on turn 8.

A close and exciting game, with a big swing of luck for us. This one teetered on the edge of a knife.

I look forward to the rematch!
