The crowd were well up for this one - so much so, that they couldn't hold themselves back and they invaded the pitch before the game had even begun! 3 players were stunned on each side, and the Miners began their first drive, feinting one way before over-committing down the other flank. The Hippies did a great job of holding them in place, before super-dwarf Salir Ironshield decided to make a break for it on his own. A sloppy screen from the dwarves allowed the orcs to blitz the ballcarrier, and eventually steal the ball. The Miners were too nonchalant about the risk that King Crimson posed, and were duly punished: the ball was handed to the black orc, who sprinted into the endzone just in time for the end of the half. 1-0 to the Hippies, who were due to receive in the second half.
The orcs' drive in the second half started cautiously, as they were obviously wary of the risk of the Miners' wizard. After some back and forth, the inevitable fireball finally came, and (luckily) managed to decimate the cage around the ballcarrier. Salir came to the rescue once again, dodging away from tacklers, blitzing the ballcarrier, and scooping up the loose ball before heading towards the endzone. A brief attempt at a stall was cut short by some tenacious orc blitzers, and the Miners equalised with a few turns left. 1-1.
The Hippies only had two turns left to score the winner, and the perfect defence set up by the Miners didn't help matters. Only one player managed to get within scoring range, and he was successfully knocked back, sending the game to overtime.
In overtime, the Hippies won the toss, and elected to receive. However, a blitz on the kick-off from the Miners negated that advantage somewhat, allowing the dwarves to trap the orcs deep in their own half. After a scrum on the sideline, the ballcarrier was pushed into a dwarven section of the crowd, who threw it into the path of a very grateful Salir Ironshield, who once again dodged away, picked up the ball, and ran it into the endzone to win the game 2-1.
After initially bemoaning our own luck as the BOB managed to score a slightly improbable goal in the first half, the luck was all ours from the second half onwards. Good game sonrises - good luck with the team, and keep up the good work on the tournament reporting!”
