An enemy blitz in the first turn almost made it unbearable, but a lucky catch from star player Salir Ironshield gave us hope. Flint Churnblade barely remembered to turn on his chainsaw before he was knocked out of the game, and after some unwise cageing down the sideline the ball was knocked loose. The Herd recovered, and returned the ball almost to the Miners' endzone, but a lightning bolt from the hired wizard stopped the advance. An epic dodge, pick up, and (missed) pass made sure the score remained 0-0 at the half.
Things were looking up in the second half, as the Miners managed to sneak a spiked ball onto the pitch just as the rain started to fall. However, a terrible kick meant that the Herd could take advantage of a touchback, negating the spikiness. It was a pretty standard grind down the pitch for the Herd, who scored to win it 1-0.
Four Miners won't be returning home tonight: the two Ironjaw brothers (Glerin and Noignar), both killed by Vare of the Herd; Rilin Slantercor, who was maimed beyond recognition and begged the apothecary to put him out of his misery (the apothecary promptly granted his wish); and Dibur Strakeln, who refused to lie down and play dead, fracturing an opponent's leg in rage, and whose audacity was punished in the final turn.
Good game, and good luck in the next few rounds!”
