#14 Arnie – Smashed Collar Bone (-ST)
Detroit Technology receiving in the first half, they faced an uphill battle at the start, with 4str Jeff going down and booted hard. Many casualties followed, and in the great scrum near home team's finishing line, neither team got an upper hand. At last the ball was at Stronger Together's side, but we didn't get enough time to score: 0-0.

The second half started with 6 players on Detroit's side and 10 on ours. Things seemed very good for me, but being reckless and not thinking through everything, I managed to lose the ball, and the two sneaky elves ran with the ball, with most of my team on the away half and looking at that hopelessly. Detroit scored in the 6th turn. Having just two turns left to score, I hoped for a draw, and moved many players to the 7 position, meaning I needed only one 2+ GFI roll to tie, when - surprise! The Greased Shoes came and made that a 5+, with the ball carrier falling on the finishing line.

A nice victory for elves, and a lesson in overcommiting for the pact.

Well played Rags, and see you in finals! :)

#1 Jeff – Serious Concussion (-AV)
#6 Ira – Serious Concussion (-AV)
#18 Duane Quickbrook – Dead (RIP)
Detroit Technology fans feel lucky with this win, but not as lucky me, facing three out of three defeats in the current OLC Free For All and having fared poorly against Stronger Together in the past.
Detroit Technology first faced Stronger Together in the OLD World FFA two seasons ago, and were dealt a sound beating. After receiving their first kick and desperately rushing for the earliest score, the Elves never came close to regaining control of the game.
Coming in as heavy TV favourites, DT were wont to think revenge was at hand in the first round of the play-offs, but were again humbled by a workmanlike performance. A third encounter with an identical scoreline seemed to reconfirm that the Dark Elves had no answer to the relentless Chaos Pact grind. The Dark Elves could only wonder at how a team relying on what's known in Detroit Techno circles as a Lineman as it's Star Player dominate so completely? The answer didn’t seem to lie with the players...
Only in the fourth encounter, again at a starting disadvantage were Stronger Together held to a draw. They nontheless entered the next match up as heavy favourites not just because the tale of the tape, but because now for the first time, it was they who were on paper the notably more powerful team. The difference seemed evident early on, as Detroit players began to leave the pitch on stretchers. But the elves managed to slip away from the mid-field scuffle, closing in on the ST end zone.
Stronger Together fans remember running out of time to score, but the tale from Detroit is that the ball spent quite some time in the ST endzone- it's just that a Ratman managed to desperately cling onto it. But tales of a Stronger Together threat to score in the first half must be taken with a pinch of salt, - the ball never moved more than a couple of yards before the whistle blew.
But while Stronger Together never took the offensive during the first half, it nonetheless seemed they had more than weathered the storm, entering the second half with a clean sheet and within minutes building their weight in numbers into a three to one numeric advantage (this was partially aided by Detroit's desperate trickery backfiring, when a ball by them spiked knocked one of their own unconscious!)
But in pressing their advantage, living up to their name for once proved Stronger Together's undoing as onslaught in one direction turned not to rout, but to hot pursuit, in the other. A lumbering Minotaur somehow managed to catch up with the fleet of foot elf runner (almost as though he willfully sought to prolong the pursuit) trampling him to the dirt just inches shy of the endzone! The ball was once again loose, but this time the defending team were out of chances to seize the initiative, allowing the last standing Detroit player to score and leaving only the shortest time frame to counterstrike before the final whistle.
Characteristically unwilling to rely on their remaining players and skills to retain their lead, the Dark Elves somehow managed to tamper with their unwitting opponent's footwear before the final drive, with the effects of this dirty trick only becoming apparent in the closing second of the game as Stronger Together had little choice to break into a final, desperate, unbridled sprint...
