The last game of the season, and altho' JTC had already been mathematically eliminated from the post-season, the outcome was still a matter of pride for both teams.
The Apes won the coin toss and received, and were awarded a 4th RR, but then it was bad luck for JTC and great luck for SVD. Turn 1 quad-Both-Downs dropped a gorilla on the 2nd block, allowing the Frogs to pressure, and Turn 2 a snaked pickup left the ball on the sideline. The Frogs risked an opening 1D block to start the recovery and GFI'd out of surf-land ton the 2 yard line, and when the Apes got caught by DT (after KO'ing a rookie linefrog) SVD scored via their 2nd RR - 1-0.
Turn 4 a random kick went short to the LoS on the weak side, and a Blitz! gave SVD the momentum again - tho' despite a RR, they failed to make the 3+ catch, the ball once again lying on the sideline. Apes pressured hard (including -MA'ing another rookie linefrog), and again SVD was forced to risk an initial 1D to create the play - but after seven(!) "not 1" rolls, they still had their last RR to save the 3+ Pass - and a last 2+ Catch made the score 2-0.
Turn 5, down to 10 players and out of RR's, the Frogs kicked for the 3rd time - and the early frog luck entirely left the field. A 3rd linefrog went out MNG, then their blitz found only double-skulls, giving the Apes an open route to the score, and KO'd the Slann Block Blitzer. The Turn 8 kick was meaningless, 2-1 at the half, Frogs receiving again.
But since the wake-up rolls went 1 for 5, only 8 Frogs took the field - and only 7 saw a Turn 1 after a Blitz!, the mirror of the previous one, right down to dropping the 3+ catch on the sideline. The Frogs pulled off a 3+ pickup and formed a screen, but Turn 2 snaked a Dodge before being able to Pass clear - and by Turn 4 (due to a Gorilla scoring), the score was tied, 2-2.
The +MA Catcher had been MNG'd during all this, so only 7 Frogs took the field for the critical Turn 5 kick. Anotehr snake, this time on a Pass, left the ball near the LoS, and after KO'ing another linefrog, JTC was able to collect it and dominate the pitch for the T16 go-ahead score, 2-3.
Great comeback, and the luck seemed balanced - great luck for SVD to start, bad luck to finish, and vice versa for JTC, but 45 blocks to 19 tell the story of the Casualties.”
