Nurgle lives and dies by the bash, and had exactly zero earned casualties in this close game, not even a BH, and almost as few KO's. Their DP was booting key players with impunity and keeping them down when he could, but, with one early exception that was Apo'd back into Reserves, even that could only find Knock-outs at best.
SPANK won the toss and chose to Kick, and a Turn 1 Blitz and randomly deep kick didn't help Nurghlander, nor opening-block double-Skulls (the first of 4 during the game, including one quads), who were barely able to hold their own in a dogfight for the ball until Turn 4 when they finally were able to hold on to the ball. But they 4-turn score from deep failed - score 0-0 at the half.
3 key players remained KO'd for the DElfs, as was the St 4 Wrestler for Nurgle, but the big news was the MA 7 Frenzy MB Pesti RIP'd - and his loss was felt in the rest of the game and will be in the future. But the +Ag Blodgestepping DElfs danced through the Nurgle D, and it was all Nurghlander could do to pressure a Turn 6 score, leaving 3 turns to tie.
Another deep kick threatened disaster, but a friendly Perfect Weather scatter with another bounce put the ball OB and into the hands of a Blodge Pesti. But now with 11 on the field, the DElfs formed a double-deep D, and there was little Nurgle could do - increasingly desperate attempts at scoring all failed, game over.
Nurghlander had one card up their sleeve, a Blatant Foul, that they were saving should they need to stun a prone DElf if they needed to cage around them - but that chance never materialized.”
