The Nurgle Bash beat the Lurkers, combined with some particularly ill-timed fails and lopsided dice, as "tactics" or "coaching" never really had a chance to get out of the gate. The Lurkers took some protection against that very thing - and good thing, as both Apos were used on Vamps before this one-sided bashfest was over.
Lurkers won the toss and chose the ball, as Brilliant Coaching awarded Nurghlander RR #4. Lurkers avoided the heavy LoS as best they could, and caged up on the sidelines, ballcarrier on their own 9, before a -2d Stunned a lino. Nurghlander BH'd a lino Turn 1, and Turn 2 got a 2d on the ballcarrier with their St 4 Wrestler - Both Down, loose ball. Lurkers lost another Lino (KO'd) to BL, then missed the RR'd 3+ pickup, ball bouncing free. Nurghlander coaching staff went soft in the head, and started their turn with a Block before anything else - quad-Skulls, advantage back to the Lurkers, who recovered and left Turn 4 with 5 Nurgle hypno'd or in the dirt, but the ballcarrier far from secure. Nurghlander tried a 1d blitz that found it's mark, but the ball fell directly into the hands of a Thrall. On their Turn 5, early double-Skulls at a RR, and Foul Appearance prevented blocking the nearest threat, and then BL on an isolated Vamp sent him off. A double-GFI blitz Pow'd the ballcarrier near midfield, and Nurghlander GFI'd to screen the ball, but not before using a RR on a (needlessly 1d) Skull, but which sent another Thrall off MNG'd. Turn 6 the Lurkers actually recovered the ball in TZ, and dodged free to the Nurgle 7 yard line but unsupported and unprotected. T6 Nurgle GFI'd to blitz him into another blocker - unnecessary, as double-Skulls were RR'd (using their last) to a Pow, which KO'd the Vamp, and then fouled their #1 Blodge/Tackle Vamp permed despite Apo (Niggle or -MA) - but he Regened, and then BH'ing another Thrall. This left the Lurkers with 1 Blocking Vamp and 3 Thralls on the field, and their Turn 7 desperation pass failed before the pickup. Turn 7 that last Vamp was BH'd out (no Regen!), and, after another Thrall was KO'd, the Turn 8 3+ handoff succeeded for the score - 1-0.
Nurghlander had not anything more than a Stun or three, and of the 3 Lurker KO's 2 woke up (the Blackle Vamp and Blocking Thrall), so the best 3 Vamps and 7 Thralls lined up despite the bash. Nurghlander and the dice were far from done with the Lurkers, however, and as they opened their Turn 1 with a Blitz, BL rolled a 1 (saved by Pro) and the first GFI rolled a 1 (saved by RR) - the Foul Appearance passed and the blitz found a Pow - but the last GFI to mark the ballcarrier found a 3rd 1, AND the Vamp BH'd himself out - no Regen. Turn 4 saw a Thrall KO'd, and another KO himself on a Skulled -2d as the increasingly outnumbered Lurkers had only ugly options. Turn 5 Nurghlander turned the corner to within scoring range, Turn 6 they fell back to stall out of Blitz range, and by Turn 7 they faced no real opposition as 2 Thralls were blocked off the field, another Bitten, and another isolated Vamp failed BL and left. Nurghlander was able to handoff to a rookie Chaos Warrior for a skill, who walked in uncontested, and the T16 play was unremarkable, game over, 2-0.
