Both teams girded their respective loins for what both expected to be a bash fest, and for the most part neither were disappointed, despite an unusual absence of perms on both sides (if thanks to a key Nurgle Regen).
Nurghlander won the toss and chose the ball, and started their drive...
T1: KO'ing the #2 Guard/Block Warrior
T2: BH'ing a rookie beastman and fouling another KO'd
T3: BH +Ag Star ball-handler beastman
...while taking only a single Rotter BH'd, T3. But their T3 position was flawed (trying to push the Mino away), and a hole was opened and the ball popped on the sideline just past midfield, and the crowd threw the ball the maximum 12 squares (with +1 further for scatter) back to the Nurgle 2 yard line! Turn 4 Nurgle KO'd the Mino (phew!) and Surfed the ClawMB beastman, and started running back for the ball. Altho' there were only 3 Warriors and 2 Beastmen left defending, time was now the opponent - however, SA still "killed" a Warrior (Regened) on a 1d, and Nurghlander BH'd another rookie beastman in reply, recovering the ball on the 2 to end Turn 5 - 3 Turns to go the length of the field against very few defenders. Turn 7 they had advanced the ball to the SA 10 with some players around the 6-7, but with poor protective position, and when one Warrior finally(!) broke free from The Beast and GFI'd to help sandwich them in with other Army dodgers things looked bad. But Nurghlander found a chainpush and a Pow to get the DP Rotter in range and free, made the handoff, and scored with only 4 Chaos on the field, 1-0.
Turn 8 Kick saw all 3 SA KO's wake up (inc. the Mino and Guard Warrior), so Sharpe's Army was looking to take the field with 10, missing only their ballhandler and some rookies. The Army BH'd another rookie Rotter - not entirely meaningless, as it put the rookie Pesti on the LoS to open the 2nd half.
2nd half started with a tense moment when the short kick pickup was almost muffed, then settled down to a midfield cage and grind. Nurghlander drew first blood T2 w/ a rookie Beastman KO'd (11:9), but T3 the Army widened a huge hole up the middle and multi-GFI'd to cage, ball safely on the 7, and it was all Nurghlander could to to heavily mark the cage corners and pressure. But the pressure was enough, SA made the 1-GFI score - 1-1.
The Chaos KO woke up, so it was 10 defending against 11, 5 Turns to play. Nurghlander won a RR (for a total of 2), but double-skulls while Blitzing the Mino used one almost immediately (RR'd to only Push) before they recovered the randomly short kick near one sideline. SA was able to move(!) their Mino as a roadblock, and 1d'd a C-Warrior Stunned. T5 Nurghlander KO'd the same Guard/Block Warrior and BH'd a Beastman, making it 11:8, but did not advance anyone much past the LoS. To start T6 the Mino RIP'd a rookie Rotter, but then SA snaked a GFI in front of the ball, and it was Nurghlander's turn to romp thru a hole to the 8. SA 1d'd to mark the ballcarrier, and Nurgle's 1d found a Skull, using their last RR. Nurghlander had the choice between 2 no-RR GFI's for the T7 score, or stopping the unsupported Blodger on the 2 and facing a 3+ dodge and 2D backed by a RR - perhaps bad at math, they went for the GFI's (> 2/3 success), but failed the 2nd, KO'ing(!) the ballcarrier, ball on the 1. Turn 8 the Army recovered, and screened, and that was the game.”
